Labor Day. Monday, September 2nd. Always the first Monday in September, a federal holiday celebrating the economic and social contributions of workers. First celebrated in 1882 in New York City. Celebrated by most Americans today as the symbolic end of summer.

School Starts. Tuesday, September 3rd. School opens in District 112.

Patriot Day. The annual observance of September 11th, 2001, to remember those who were injured or died in the terrorist attack on the United States of America, in memory of the 2,977 killed as four planes were hijacked and two flew into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center.

Classic Cars. Wednesday, September 4th, and Wednesday, September 18th, from 5 to 8 p.m. in downtown Victoria. Sponsored by the Victoria Business Owners Association.

City Council Meetings. Wednesday, September 4th, and Monday, September 23rd, starting at 6:30 p.m. on Rose Street in downtown Victoria.

Autumn Begins. Sunday, September 22nd, often September 21st. Called the fall equinox, it marks the day of the year when the sun crosses the celestial equator, making the day and the night the same length.
