We often see aquatic hogs along the docks at Lord Fletchers on Lake Minnetonka.  Hogs always find the food and the feeders.  At Lord Fletchers, the food is popcorn, french fries, whatever happens to be in the hands of the feeders, the boaters who dock at the restaurant.

"Aquatic hogs" is not their scientific nomenclature.  They are, in fact, carp, bottom-feeders, nasty looking things with big snouts, large fins, heavy duty whiskers on each side of their mouth, and a fuselage that holds it all together.

What brings this to mind is the location of the fishhook in the August issue of the Gazette.  I hid the fishhook in the hind quarter of the land hog on page 26 where he's being roasted in an item that I call, "The Meat of the Matter."

In some ways, "meat" and "fish" are opposites.  For example, we could always eat fish on Fridays but not meat.  In other ways, they're similar since both refer to the  edible flesh from vertebrate members of the animal kingdom.  Hogs of all kinds have backbones, unlike shrimp and escargot.

Marlene Bentz of Chanhassen wins the $10 this month!  There's another fishhook hidden in this issue of the Gazette.  Maybe you won't find it this time.  If you want to be part of the monthly drawing, let me know.  Sue@VictoriaGazette.com.
