There was so much fish to eat in Norway -- including salmon and a variety of herring every morning at breakfast -- that when we got to Copenhagen I ordered liver and onions one evening for dinner, requesting that they slice it thin and fry it crispy. It was perfectly delicious. And now, back in Minnesota for a few weeks, I'm hungry for salmon again. Funny how that works.

Funny how a bunch of you find the fishhook every month. It was hiding in the cover of the Gazette mailbox on page 4 in the August issue, exactly where I stuck it. And then I reached into the minnow bucket and played a moment with all those slippery silvery little things, finally pulling out Ruth Daly of Minnetrista. You win the drawing, Ms. Ruth, and I'll get the ten dollars to you pronto. Congratulations!

I wonder why people don't eat minnows -- rolled in flour and fried up crispy. They're not much smaller than the smelt we used to enjoy at the Annual Smelt Fry of the Victoria Fire Department. Mmmmm, were they delicious with tartar sauce.
