The Victoria

GAZETTE

September 2011

To the Editor:

The Minnehaha Creek Watershed District is proposing to hold the line on taxes in 2012.  The MCWD's Board of Managers is proposing to set the 2012 levy at $7,742,005 which is the same as 2011.  The District's tax on average value homes in the District is approximately $3/month.  The District includes 27 cities, two townships, and two counties -- Hennepin and Carver.

Among the initiatives in the budget are a continued focus on preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species, including zebra mussels on Lake Minnetonka, flood control, and cost share programs.

To the Editor:

Hello, Sue.  I want to thank you for drawing my name in last month's fishhook contest.  It's the first time I've ever actually entered.  Now I can afford some bait for my own fishhook.  Libby says Hi.

To the Editor:

After searching the Gazette two times, I found the fishhook in a wine bottle in the Victoria House ad.  Very clever, Sue!

To the Editor:

With grateful hearts, we would like to acknowledge and thank those in this community who have given our family so much support with their prayers, care, concern, and compassion through the illness and loss of our youngest son, Sean, age 34, who died June 4th from an aggressive form of colon cancer.  He leaves behind his wife Gina and two daughters Anneke, 4, and Marlo, 1, who live in St. Louis Park.

We continue to be overwhelmed with the generosity and outpouring from the members of the Deer Run Ladies 18-Hole League, the Deer Run neighborhood, The Cutting Edge book club at Deer Run, and all those who participated in Sean's CaringBridge site, sent cards, flowers, donations, performed yard work, brought food, attended the visitation and/or the celebration of Sean's life at our home.

We have shared the story of the dragonfly with many and adopted this in memory of our son ...

As the story is written, there is a family of grubs who live in a marsh at the bottom of a lily pad stem.  At different times, one of them leaves home and never returns.  One of these grubs made a promise that he would return and tell the others what he saw once he reached the surface.  One day it is his turn to venture to the top of the stem where he is transformed into a beautiful dragonfly.

This transformation of his body makes him unable to return to his family to tell them he's okay and that he has found freedom, tranquility, and peace.  He then realizes that they too will someday find this new world and he flies around watching over them.

A friend shared this story with me through the Dragonflyproject.org, which was begun by a young Minneapolis woman, Ann Brooker, who wanted to give those who have lost loved ones hope that their presence still exists even though they can't see them.

On August 11th our company, Independent Pension Consultants, Ltd., held a Business After Hours for the SouthWest Metro Chamber of Commerce.  With approximately 50 guests present, Dan and I were presented with the beautiful Dragonfly Adirondack chair and table created by Deb Zeller, artist and sculptor, and donated to the Victoria Volksfest by Fresh Seasons Market.  This gift, a complete surprise, was made possible by the generosity of the SouthWest Metro Chamber of Commerce, Fresh Seasons Market, and Deb and Steve Zeller of Parley Lake Winery.

Again, we are overwhelmed with the love and support of this Victoria Community and wish to extend our thanks, appreciation, and gratitude for your friendship through both our joy and our sorrow.

To the Editor:

What an interesting paper to read and keep up with all the latest goings on in Victoria.  Great job!  Also, finding the fishhook on the wine bottle in the Victoria House ad was fun, too.  Have a nice day.
