The Victoria

GAZETTE

by Sue Orsen

It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood!  The annual Victoria Volksfest arrived on Saturday, August 27th, under blue sky and clear day with perfect temperature.  It was, in fact, picture perfect.

Canopied vendors lined Stieger Lake Lane, Victoria Drive, Tower Boulevard, and the Alley in downtown Victoria.  Visitors strolled from one to the other, almost as in a trance.  After a season of unseasonable heat and humidity, the picture perfect day was nearly unbelievable and certainly not taken for granted.

Some of the visitors were familiar like Mickey Mouse, Mayor Mary Thun, Commissioner Randy Maluchnik, Sheriff Jim Olson.  Some faces  were new and yet also familiar since they resembled those of their mother or grandmother.  Many people strolling the streets were pushing strollers and purchasing items not available at the Mall of America, for example.

There was opportunity to become acquainted and reacquainted as the event began at 11 a.m. and continued through the evening hours into the night.  Victoria businesses were also open for business and sometimes, when the streets seemed sparsely populated, it's because people were at the Victoria House or Floyd's or Vic's or School of the Wise.

There was no rain, no hail, no flooding water, no mud slide, no high wind, no hurricane, no earthquake, no power outage.  In so many ways it was a picture perfect day.
