To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  My better half brought the Gazette to me and said there’s no fishhook, so when I had time I took it and looked for my third time and I found it!  I called to Leon and he looked and looked and said, “No way!”  Then I pointed it out and he had a few things to say like, “That’s cheating” and “That’s not fair.”  I wish you and Leon could meet sometime.  You’re doing a great job.  Fun paper to read.

Good morning, Sue.  I want to invite you to our Community Planting Project set for Saturday, September 6th, at Kirke Lachen Park from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.  We are hoping for a good turnout with volunteers and that we can get this project completed.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks and have a great day.

To the Editor:

I work for a nonprofit in northern Michigan.  We received a memorial for someone who owned a hardware store in this area many years ago named Don Walinske.  I know he relocated to Victoria when he retired but cannot find an obituary online for him.  If you have information or know where I can get information, please let me know.  Thank you.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  Just wanted to let you know that we did receive our Gazette.  Thanks.  Enjoyed the article about New Orleans.  Sure do hope they can escape the next lineup of storms headed that way.  We got out of there just in time.  Thanks again.

To the Editor:

Trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat.  Snickers are #1.  My little brother and I always had fun tricking Ma.  When we got home from trick or treating, we would peek through the living room window.  There’s Ma sound asleep, sometimes reading the paper or hemming pants ... the newspaper almost on her nose and mouth wide open, snoring, TV on.

We would ring the doorbell, trying to make it look like we were the neighborhood kids and get the candy bars dished up to us.  Just to see the newspaper go flying as she got out of her sound sleep was funny.

One year the trick got spoiled.  The little brother had to go wee-wee.  I had already rang the doorbell.  There’s Ma dishing out candy, thinking we were the neighbor kids.  My little brother tried to budge past Ma but she got a bit floored and said, “You don’t live here.”  Little brother says, “But Ma, I gotta pee.”  I started giggling.  Ma said, “Ach, it’s you two giggle fritzes!”

Found your fishhook on page 35 in the clouds.

To the Editor:

For the past several months we at Lake Auburn have been doing a History Moment at the beginning of the Sunday service.

Last Sunday, Judy Plocher Kaaua read a letter from her sister, The Reverend Susan Plocher Thomas, that brought tears to my eyes as it was so sweet.

We have been reading letters from previous pastors and past members who have sent me their memories about growing up at Lake Auburn Moravian Church.  All will be published in a separate Memory Booklet.  Some are very funny.

In addition, I have gone through the pastors’ diaries back to 1958, picking up interesting things that have happened, like fish fries at Bill Braunworth’s cabin on Lake Waconia, experiences of the Adam family as they came directly from the mission field to Lake Auburn and their living in a mobile home while the current parsonage was being built.

With other items -- such as new members, funerals, baptism, confirmations, speakers like Dr. Leon Snyder and Lt. Clark from the missile base and Naturalist Jim Gilbert, and Pastor Darryl Bell telling the congregation that their newborn child died -- I have enough material to last into 2009.
