The Key

The Key to advertisers

in the Victoria Gazette.

Located at www.VictoriaGazette.com.

In long standing tradition, the Victoria Gazette continues to find ways to promote and support the Victoria community, profit and nonprofit entities, private and public institutions, individuals and groups.  It comes natural to me because home is where my heart is.  It’s where I find my soul and reach for The Sky.

Victoria is where pull weeds, water flowers, and eat on the deck.  It’s where I rake the lawn, set out Halloween candy, and put up Christmas decorations.  It’s where we joined a church, raised our children, and made new friends.  It’s where I would play golf if I played golf.  It’s where I find contractors to build and paint and update.  It’s where I plant my feet and reach for The Sky.

Victoria is where I park my car, hang my hat, and crawl in bed every night.  It’s where I buy my stamps, fill up with gas, and eat out often.  It’s where I sit in the dentist’s chair, purchase homemade sausage, and choose Australian wines.  It’s where I attend city council meetings and take notes sometimes far into the night.  It’s where I walk in the park.  It’s where I stretch out my arms and reach for The Sky.

That’s my life here in Victoria for nearly 40 years now, and for much of that span -- the past three decades, in fact -- I can say that Victoria is where I do the Gazette.  The Gazette didn’t exist in those first ten years for me or anybody else.  In some ways Victoria is where I’ve come to live and breathe the Gazette.  You’d think the eternal deadlines would be suffocating, but in fact they give me purpose and energy to reach for The Sky.

Did I say “The Sky”?  Yes, I most certainly did.  Four times already.

As I was saying, I like to play and work and do business in Victoria, and I like to think that the Victoria Gazette is one way that I return generosities and goodwill to the community -- and to others who happen by -- for the generosities and goodwill that I receive through my work.

Several years ago I created The Grapevine online and limited its membership exclusively to Victoria businesses and services.  It coincides exactly with the Victoria Directory located on the back page of each issue of the Gazette.  Listings in the Directory are my gift to the business  community since they’re practically free.

The Grapevine is totally free.  The Grapevine is rather inviting, especially when those little wine barrels burp into the wine glasses and make me smile.  I create them as much for me as for you.  Perhaps you have swung on the branches in that vineyard located at www.VictoriaGazette.com.  If not, you should go pick a grape.

You might have noticed long ago that businesses and services which lie outside Victoria have free spots on my website in The Key and, for that matter, on every single page in the online edition of the Gazette.  The Key includes those businesses that regularly advertise in the paper edition and include those in Victoria.    These hundreds of online display ads also appear without charge to anyone.  I think it’s because I’m allergic to bookkeeping.

My latest gift to the Victoria business community is called The Sky -- it’s brand new -- and that’s the fifth time I said it now!  The Sky, which is also located at www.VictoriaGazette.com, is an exclusive compilation of Victoria websites.  Each click in The Sky will transport you directly into the world of a Victoria business that serves our residents and also people way beyond our borders.  You’ll find things you’re looking for and things you’re not looking for.  It’s an amazing constellation.

We have savvy business people here in Victoria and some remarkable websites, none of which existed ten years ago.  The Sky is totally free for all the Victoria Web Sites listed in The Victoria Directory on the back page of the Gazette.  It is, in fact, a gift to people on both sides of the counter.

Everyone reading this column, and also those who are not reading this column, can now easily touch stars in The (Victoria) Sky with a simple click.  If you are a Victoria business, a Victoria service, a Victoria church, a Victoria school, a Victoria club, a Victoria organization, or a Victoria establishment with a website, you are welcome to become a star in The Sky.  Just email Sue@VictoriaGazette.com and put a little twinkle in your life.

Readers are welcome to continue enjoying and being informed by my ever growing, ever changing, and always updated website.   It’s where you can swing upon a star any time of day or night.  It takes you directly into our universe here in Victoria, Minnesota, where I find my soul, plant my feet, stretch out my arms, and reach for The Sky.
