SEEKING GRANT FOR TRAIL CONNECTION

ALONG BAVARIA ROAD IN VICTORIA

         Council confirmed on October 12th that a grant application for $250,000 should be submitted to the DNR to help construct a trail connection on Bavaria Road from 86th Street to Hwy 5.  It is a local matching grant which means, if approved, the city would be responsible for the remaining associated costs, at least another $250,000.

 

RANDY MILLER DONATES $3,500

TOWAR THE VICTORIA COMMUNITY SCULPTURE

         Council accepted a $3,500 contribution from Randy Miller, a resident of Victoria who is also the president of the Victoria Business Association, toward the cost of the community sculpture that should be completed later this fall.

 

CITY OF VICTORIA SUPPORTS WeCAB

WITH A 2016 CITY DONATION OF $2,500

         Council approved a donation of $2,500 to WeCAB on October 12th, an organization dedicated to providing transportation to people in need of transportation.  Drivers are volunteers who use their own vehicles

 

VICTORIA HAS 73 STORMWATER PONDS

VISUAL MONITORING IS TODAY’S SCOPE

         City Engineer Cara Geheren was asked in the recent past to report on the condition of the city's stormwater ponds and how they are being monitored and maintained today and with eyes to the future.  On October 12th, Council received introductory  information.

 

VICTORIA HOMEOWNER GROUPS

CAN NEGOTIATE WITH GARBAGE HAULERS

         Council and staff continued conversation about garbage haulers in Victoria on October 12th, determining that homeowner associations may be in the best position to solicit quotes to hire one garbage hauler for a neighborhood.

 

VICTORIA SUPPORTS THE LIONS

BUT NOT AN EVENT CENTER AT THIS TIME

         Council voted 3-1 (Councilmember Jim Crowley absent) on October 12th to not authorize a capital budget request to the State of Minnesota to help the Victoria Lions build an event center.  The Lions lost their meeting and event place when the Village Hall was demolished this past summer.

 

EFFICIENCIES AT NEW PUBLIC WORKS BLDG

VICTORIA EMPLOYEES ARE THRILLED

         Responding to a recent request of the Council, Victoria Parks and Public Works Director Ann Mahnke presented a review of information on October 12th.

 

VANDERLINE SKETCH PLAT GETS A NOD

PROPOSING 24 NEW VICTORIA HOMES

         Council reviewed a sketch plat for the Vanderlinde property on Bavaria Road and  expressed positive comments in its regard.  As Ben Landhauser, Community Development Director, explained, "A sketch plat allows the developer to receive feedback from the Council."  Subsequent steps include the preliminary plat and final plat, both of which require Council approval.

 

VICTORIA PROJECTS WORK TOGETHER

NEXT YEAR AT DEER RUN AND WINTERGREEN

         After much discussion and consideration, Council voted 5-0 on October 26th to complete and bid two street projects together.  The project in Deer Run involves drainage and street reconstruction, paid for through the assessment process; design plans were authorized in September.  The project in Wintergreen is an overlay to be done in 2016 and funded from the city's long term street maintenance fund.
