The Victoria

GAZETTE

November 2012

To the Editor:

I am interested in advertising in the Victoria Gazette.  Would you please forward your advertising rates?  I am a local resident living in Watermark since 2005.  Thanks.  By the way, I love opening up my mailbox and receiving the Gazette.

To the Editor:

I am writing to say how much I enjoy the Victoria Gazette.  I don't believe it would be an exaggeration to say that this publication is one-of-a-kind in the newspaper world.  It is informative, educational (we can all use a little help with vocabulary words!), entertaining, balanced, heartwarming, and uplifting.  Yet it is all done with a personal, small-town touch.

I think I am mostly impressed with the editor herself.  While I'm sure she has many contributors and administrative help, it is quite impressive to think that Sue herself authors several pieces and puts it all together every month.  It is obviously a labor of love for her.

Oh, and did I mention I adore all the family photos?  In full disclosure, I must admit that I am Sue's son-in-law's aunt.  Nevertheless, I mean every word I wrote.  Kudos, Sue!

To the Editor:

I am writing in support of and to endorse Gordy Simanton for the Victoria City Council.  Gordy is among the most experienced and qualified candidates and will be ready to "hit the ground running" once he is sworn in.

Gordy has spent many years studying and implementing significant land use decisions in Victoria while serving as Chair of the Victoria Planning Commission.  Most all of our newly developed neighborhoods, commercial areas, schools, and neighborhood parks have somehow been touched by Gordy.  He was instrumental in the development of the Master Plan for the Laketown Community and worked to support the building of Victoria Elementary School as a part of that community.

I served with Gordy as Vice Chair of the Planning Commission from 2002 to 2004 and can attest to his preparedness and knowledge of our community.  Gordy really understands Victoria, how it has been developed, and how to maintain its small town charm and unique features and benefits.

He has run many a public hearing and listens closely to the concerns of residents.  He is fair and open-minded, works very well with his colleagues and staff, and is very well prepared by intense grounding of the issues when it is time to vote.  I urge you to vote for Gordy Simanton on November 6th.

To the Editor:

Just love your paper.  The fishhook is in the goose's body on page 32.

To the Editor:

Remember the Burma Shave signs along the road?  Too young?  Here is my version, after reading the wonderful article in October's paper about your wonderful mother in law and her poetry.

There once was a girl named Sue

Who wrote all words that were true.

         We love newsy lines

         Because they are signs

Of City News and our area too.

My mom was Dutch and English, and so heard nursery rhymes all the time growing up.  In fact, when she was a couple days before death in the Waconia hospital, I asked her if she would like to pray the Hail Mary.  She said, yes, and started:  "Hail Mary ..."  Then she stopped and said, "Mary, Mary, quite contrary ..." and just smiled.  She couldn't remember the prayer but wanted to go right into a nursery rhyme.  She was such a sweetheart.

The October fishhook is in the tummy of the goose of "Lighten Your Load" on page 32.  Just wanted to say hi.  My, our town is growing.  Lots of young new blood.  Great!
