The Victoria

GAZETTE

To he Editor:

Hello, Sue.  In March, Dan and Aldean Steinhagen of Waconia were driving up the Pacific Coast.  They stopped in for a few hours.  We tried to catch up on about 60 years of Carver County history and growth.  We tried to figure where everyone went over the years.  Dan purchased a year's subscription to the Gazette for us.  We received the April issue and we thank Dan and Aldean very much for the paper

I see in that April issue where a roundabout is being built on Highway 7 and County Road 11 (Victoria Drive).  Where the roundabout begins on County #11 was the north side of our farm.  My parents, Stanley and Lottie Kowalke, got the farm from my grandfather Gustave Kowalke.

I went to public school in Victoria for grades 1 through 8, and then to Waconia for high school.  Dan and I were classmates there.  Dad sold the farm in 1953 and moved to Anchorage, Alaska.  I finished high school there.  Lived in Hope, Alaska, for most of my years there.  Ten years ago my wife and I retired to Depoe Bay, Oregon.

I can remember the band wagon being rolled out on Saturday nights in downtown Victoria.  We always had a good time.  The article that Mike Wartman wrote for the April issue brought back a lot of memories -- Lenny's service station, Notermann's store, and the Thiede meat market.  It would take a long time to keep wandering around on all the memories.

My parents, grandparents, and great grandparents, and other relatives, are interned in the Lake Auburn Cemetery.

To the Editor:

The fishhook is found on page 10 in the March issue, in the Drs. Dungey, Menser, and Associates ad.  There are three figures in the ad and each one is holding an umbrella in their right hand, and the third figure to the right has the fishhook formed around the handle of the umbrella.

To the Editor:

Given our snowy weather, I feel I should extend Season's Greetings as we might be awaiting the Savior's birth.  Many thanks to you and every blessing.

To the Editor:

Minnesota Food Share conducts a major food drive each March to help raise food and cash donations to assist food shelves throughout the State of Minnesota.  Bountiful Basket Food Shelf is pleased to report the following donations:  26,102 pounds of food and $23,851 in cash.  Thank you to all of our area communities for participating in the March campaign.
