May 2013

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  For the last three months I seem to have the fishhook appear right before my eyes.  So far, the last two I found were accurate so I will try again.  This time I think it was in Dr. Dungey's ad, wrapped around the umbrella of the third guy on the right.

To the Editor:

It's just plain enjoyable to find the Gazette in my mailbox.  Keep up the great work, Sue and all your staff.  Still enjoying my mornings at church and seeing my Victoria friends.

To the Editor:

I am getting very slow.  Turned 91 last week.  Yes, enjoying life.  It's great.  Thank you for the Gazette.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  My name is Joanne Tims and I'm Ethel Ausink's daughter, the one who lives in South Carolina.  Mom is doing great and I want to thank you for your incredible support and encouragement to her all the years that she wrote for the Gazette.  Mom truly enjoyed writing the column, and your kindness and appreciation always meant so much to her.

My sisters and I have been helping Mom downsize and, in the process, she discovered her last four Gazette columns are missing.  Mom was careful over the years to keep them all so it's possible they are simply misplaced.  In the meantime, would you be able to send us those four issues of the Gazette?  It would mean the world to Mom and, of course, we would all love to have those copies for her archives as well.  We are amazed by this Mother of ours who, at the age of 95, is still going strong.

To the Editor:

Wanted you to know how dear the photo was of the two manly men dressed in their Viking garb on the front page of the April Gazette.  How to "fit in" has always been my desperate need.  Never will I forget packing my very best sharp and darling sweater, with anchors and boats, waves, and lake theme, for a conference and there I was in Phoenix in July with a temp of 102 and the conference was filled with very successful speakers at the National Speakers Association.  They were dressed for success and I was dressed for dummies.  So Allan and Christopher created excitement, I am certain, or the beach babes thought that their luggage got lost.  Happy spring!

To the Editor:

We have volunteers and donors from Mount Olivet Church West in Victoria who participate in our annual super garage sale at our Minneapolis campus.  Our sale is May 8th and 9th.

By the way, I was looking at your website and read a piece about visiting your parents in Ghent.  Did you grow up in Ghent?  I have been there!  My dad grew up in Marshall and I spent a lot of time visiting Marshall as a child.  I still have close friends from Marshall from those days.  My dad was born in 1920.  His name was Charles Healy, and my grandpa was Charles Healy also.  I remember my dad talking about the farms around Ghent and Marshall.  I have been to the Silver Dollar Bar in Ghent.  I even recently tried to get a t-shirt from the Silver Dollar Bar, only to learn it is closed.  It is a small world.

To the Editor:

I loved your story and pictures on "Marvelous Marco Island."  Have been there numerous times and hope to go back again.  Could you give me an email or contact information for the group heading up the citywide garage sale.  My neighborhood is interested in participating and I'm not sure how to contact them with questions.
