The Victoria

GAZETTE

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  Thank you so much for sending the Gazette to us in Florida.  We are back home in Victoria now.  What a wonderful job you do.  We so enjoy keeping in touch with back home.  It was such a treat to find the Gazette in our mailbox each month.

To the Editor:

It was interesting to see my daughters' names (Sarah and Rachael) mentioned in Kay Meuwissen's letter in the Gazette last month, as well as my parents' (Floyd and Mae Schmid), and my grandmother's (Ida Plocher) names being mentioned in your "Seems Like Yesterday" page.  Thank you.  I found the fishhook on page 24 inside the heart for your annual subscription envelope.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  Another great issue of the Gazette.  Got it this morning and read the whole thing in one sitting.  The April fishhook is in the heart of the Gazette renewal envelope.  Happy Easter.

To the Editor:

What a great page of Janie and me in the Gazette last month.  Very cute, lovely, wonderful.  Thank you very much, Sue.  You put so much work to it.  I very much appreciate that.

To the Editor:

Thank you so much for your newspaper.  We enjoy it and so do our children.  Our grandson needed to write an article on family history and your story, "A Room at the Inn," was great for him.

To the Editor:

Happy Mom's Day.  May 13th is (or was) my mom's birthday.  She would be 85 this year.  It's also Marcy Jasper's special day too.  Happy B-Day, Marcy.  Mom and Marcy chummed a lot.  They knew each other as young lassies back in the 1940's when Mom wa a nighttime telephone operator and Marcy worked at Glencoe Hospital.  Mom lived with Julia Naughton back then.   Julia was a telephone operator too.  Spent many a time at the Valley Ballroom when it was by the Hwy 41 bridge.  Julia even danced with Lawrence Welk.  He had gigs there way before he was famous.  Dad met Mom at the telephone office.  His sister Ethel (Schneider) worked there too.  Julia Naughton told me one day after work that Rosie (my mom) wasn't home.  She and Dad went on a walk and they went all  the way to the Guardian Angels Cemetery.  Mom comes back saying she met a nice fella.  Julia asked who and mom said Gene Meuwissen.  Mom and Dad were married 44 years.  They married April 26th, 1947, at Guardian Angels.  She's gone 21 years this February 17th.  She was 63.  I can still see her on the phone talking to friends and always in the conversation she'd say Ach, yeah and Ach, no.  When some German- raised Chaskans are talking, the words 'say' and 'hey' come in.  Band concert tonight in the park, hey.  Free ice cream, hey.  Root beer floats, say.  Happy Mom's Day, say!
