To the Editor:

Sorry I have no article from Iraq for you this month, and I guess no more in the future unless you are interested in telling your readers about the wounded at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

I was evacuated 30 days ago and just released as an outpatient.  I am okay and will spend the next two months or more recovering.  Many soldiers here are hurt badly.  It is part of war I never thought I would see, and it is a part of war that hurts me to the depths of my soul.

To the Editor:

Thanks again, Sue, for the stamps you have been saving for the kids.  You have been doing this for at least 15 years and you have made a lot of kids very happy.  If you ever hear of a kid that collects stamps, please let me know as I and the stamp club have many, many duplicates to give to them.  I hope that your lovely brown eyes will continue to head up the Victoria Gazette for at least 30 more years.  It is the best monthly newspaper in the world.

To the Editor:

I just wanted to say thank you for including a page for me in your June issue of the Gazette.  I think it turned out very nice.  My parents would have been so proud.

To the Editor:

As you undoubtedly heard early in June, Governor Pawlenty announced that he would not be running for re-election in 2010.  This has left the race for Governor wide open, and am I excited to announce that I am planning on getting in!

Actually, I have been taking several steps over the last few months to prepare for the possibility of this run.  I am thankful for Governor Pawlenty’s leadership and would have been pleased to see him run again, but I expected that he would decide to move on.

Just like my first race for the legislature in 2002, there are several candidates lining up to run and the first step will be to secure my party’s endorsement.  This will take place next June, but the work must begin today.  It’s going to be a marathon, not a sprint.

I have spent most of the past several days on the telephone with supporters and party leaders from all over the state and the response has been so encouraging.  This initial outpouring of support has given me the desire to move forward with a campaign.

I am writing today to ask for your help by doing three things:  1)  Pray.  Kelly and I ask that you pray for our family.  We are going to need your love and support more than ever. 2)  Talk.  Please tell all of your friends and family about my candidacy.  Running statewide is a daunting proposition, and I need all the help I can get spreading the word.  3) Contribute.  This race is likely to be the most expensive race for Governor in Minnesota history.  The money raised will be used to help me spread my message to all Minnesotans.  I’m estimating that my campaign will need to raise $4-5 million between now and election day 2010.

I plan to campaign on a theme of fiscal responsibility and limited government, but to build the organization and convey this message, I’m going to need to start raising money now.  My campaign team has given me a goal of raising $30,000 by the end of June.  With your help today, I’m sure I can meet this goal.

I am able to accept up to $500 per person ($1,000 per couple) in 2009, but any amount you can contribute today will help me meet my initial goals.  It’s never fun to have to ask for money, but it is a necessary part of any campaign.  Whether you can contribute $1,000, $500, $250, $100, or some other amount, know that your support is valued and appreciated.

You can make your check payable to Kohls for Governor and mail it to me at 8555 Allegheny Circle, Victoria, MN 55386.  Thanks so much for your past support and thanks in advance for your help as we begin this new adventure.

You can check out my campaign website, www.paulkohlsforgovernor, where you can sign up for regular campaign updates, track activities, and read about my plans to make Minnesota an even greater state.

         Warmest regards,

         Paul Kohls

To the Editor:

The Carver County Sheriff’s Office is requesting any media who wish to be present at a press release about the propane explosion at the Waconia Farm Supply in Waconia to go to the following location.  The media staging location is Hwy 284 south of Hwy 5.  You will not be able to reach the location from Hwy 5.  You will need to respond from Hwy 284 from the south.  Once there, a deputy will direct you to the staging site which is south of the incident.  Thank you.

         Lieutenant Dave Williams
