Did you see those dead fish flying through the open air at that fish market in Seattle?  Funniest thing I ever saw and quite the successful marketing ploy, especially as the airborne fish were spied by PETA and given subsequent worldwide headlines.  If few people heard of Pike Place Fish Market before PETA’s complaints, now many know about it and will probably visit the market when in Seattle to check out the hullabaloo.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals obviously have way too much time on their own hands, and you know what they say about idle hands.  You don’t?  Well, here it is:  “Idle hands are tools of the devil.”

When PETA asserted that “lobbing fish above the heads of patrons and tourists at the market is disrespectful to creatures that already have gone through a lot,” I laughed along with many others.  How can anyone take the organization seriously?  PETA has become the laughing stock of those with sound mind and body.

Whether sound or not, here’s another harmless activity, not unlike lobbing dead fish through the air:  hunting for the fishhook hidden in each issue of the Gazette.  Last month it was cleverly curled around the butcher block of the Mackenthun’s St. Boni ad.

When I reached into the minnow bucket, I found Alvin Burandt of Young American swimming around with a large school of other successful fishhook finders.  Your $10 will be on its way shortly, Alvin.  Say hello to the other chipmunks for me.

There’s another fishhook hidden in this issue of the Gazette.  It’s the penultimate task every month when wrapping up the paper.  If you find it, email Sue@VictoriaGazette.com or drop a line to P.O. Box 387, Victoria, MN 55386 and sinker in the mail.  You won’t stay in that minnow bucket more than 30 days.  Promise!  You never know around which corner PETA will be lurking.
