         Laurie Hokkanen:  “You both bring unique business perspectives and a sincere and keen interest in what’s best for the City of Victorisa.  It’s appreciated.  You’ve done great things here.”

         Councilmember Basa:  “For the city council coming behind me, I hope you know that the city staff is a highly talented and highly dedicated people.  They are key to make the vision come to life.  I hope you understand and respect the business owners here in our great city.  I hope you don’t  take lightly the work done by other councils before you, whether you agree with the decisions or not.”

         Mayor O’Connor:  “The last four years have been challenging and I am concerned about the future of our city.  The continued legal process involving the lawsuit is particularly troublesome.  It is time for the vendetta to end and the focus returned to the real interests of Victoria’s residents.  The long running positive momentum we enjoy is in jeopardy.”

 

CHASKA MAYOR HONORS VICTORIA MAYOR

AND PRESENTS A GIFT OF FOND FAREWELL

         Mark Windschitl, Mayor of the City of Chaska, presented a gift to his mayoral colleague on behalf of the Chaska City Council.  The gift from their city with the Yellow Brick road and an early history of making bricks, was a Chaska Brick.  “I wanted to congratulate you,” he said.  “I feel good knowing you.  It’s awesome.”

 

THE 2010 COMPREHENSIVE PLAN

TARGETING KEY AREAS OF VICTORIAS

         Community Development Director Ben Landhauser referred to key areas of Victoria that will experience growth in the next 20 years.  He mentioned property south of Marsh Lake road, property near County Road 10, and property west of Lakebridge.  “We’re also looking to update our parks, lakes, and open spaces,” he said.

 

CUB SCOUTS PRESENT THE FLAG

AND ASK QUESTIONS OF VICTORIA COUNCIL

         The Flaming Turtles Cub Scouts, Victoria Pack 589, marched single file into the Council Chambers on December 12th with the American flag raised high, saluted it, and led everyone in saying the Pledge of Allegiance.  The cub scouts then asked questions of Mayor Tom O’Connor and other councilmembers and staff.

 

2017 STREET PROJECTS IN VICTORIA

COUNCIL APPROVES A FEASIBILITY STUDY

         Council ordered a feasibility study for 2017 street and drainage improvements for Swiss Mountain, Narcissus Court, Field Creek Circle, McKnight Circle, and three streets in the northern part of the city.  City Engineer Cara Geheren estimated cost of the project is around $1.1 million, while cost of the feasibility is $15,200.

 

CITY OF VICTORIA READY FOR 2017

FINAL BUDGETS AND LEVIES ADOPTED

         Finance Director Kelly Grinnell reviewed budgets and levies one more time with city councilmembers then made all motions necessary for adoption.  The Final Tax Levy for 2017 is $4,179 plus $188,000 for the City Hall debt service fund.  Total revenues are projected at $4,282,681.  Total General Fund expenditures amount to $33,873,995 plus transfers of $375,000.  The 2017 Rec Center budget includes $951,063 in revenues, and expenditures of $608,063 and a transfer of $340,000 for debt service.

 

PREDATORY SEX OFFENDER ORDINANCE

VICTORIA TAKING THE NEXT STEP FORWARD

         This project as been led by resident Kelly Omdahl.  The ordinance is focusing on a Level 3 offender.  “Without an ordinance you don’t have a lot of say as to where they live.  This has to do with where they live.  You cannot exclude them.  You can identify locations for them.”  There would be buffer zones from schools, libraries, childcare centers, public parks and playgrounds, trails, gymnasiums, beaches, ballfields, churches, and bus stops.

CITY MANAGER EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS

         Mayor Tom O’Connor reported that Council held a performance review of City Manager Laurie Hokkanen on December 12th.  “Her performance exceeded expectations,” he said.
