New Years Day.  Observed on January 1st, the first day on the modern Gregorian calendar as well as the Julian calendar.  New Year's Day is probably the most celebrated public holiday, often observed with fireworks at the stroke of midnight as the new year starts in each time zone.

 

City Council Meetings.  Held at 6:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at Victoria City Hall on Stieger Lake Lane.  Jan. 11th and 25th.

 

Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  An American federal holiday observed on the third Monday of January each year, which is around his birthday, January 15th.  The holiday was signed into law by President Ronald Reagan in 1983.

­Victoria Bloodmobile.  Monday, January 18th, 1 to 7 p.m. at the Victoria Recreation Center.  Sponsored by the Lions.

 

Victoria Fishing Contest.  Sunday, February 7th, from 12:30 to 2:30 on Stieger Lake Lane in downtown Victoria.  Food, family fun, raffle prizes, large catch prizes.
