A symphony of photos

and fewer than a thousand words

Picking the Mind of Councilmember Jim Crowley by Sue Orsen.  “Our city is in a very strong position with respect to our finances, growth, and opportunity.  Our current challenge is ensuring that, like past councils, this new council leaves the city in a better place than when and where we started.”

You’ve Got to be Kidding! by Tom Stumpf, Cowboy Correspondent.  “As a self-professed rooster hunting junkie and avid outdoor enthusiast, this cowboy has been blessed to witness some crazy and wonderful occurrences.  A few days before Christmas this past year found me and my son’s Labrador, Carl, hunting the edge of a lake on a wildlife management area in central Minnesota.”

Hats and Glove Off to Minnesota Snow from Cousin Steve Erickson.  Featuring several photos with captions like, “If you have had enough cold and snow, please raise your hand” and “Two feet of snow fell this morning.”

Highlights of Inauguration of President Donald J. Trump captured by Sue@VictoriaGazette.com.  “A promise keeper to make America great again.  God bless the USA.  One nation under God.  Liberty and justice for all.  Mike Pence, born to be Vice President.”

February Feast by Ckhristie Schlueter, Regular Victoria Visitor.  “February is when one gets to start having cabin fever.  Why not celebrate this time of year with a sledding party or an outdoor game day or even a nature walk in the woods.  After the event you could host a feast of comforting foods and then settle in with a movie for the evening.”

30 Years Ago the Gazette featured Herbert and Pauline Kocks in “The Love Potion Worked.”

20 Years Ago the Gazette featured Wes and Corinne Anderson in “Marks of Love.”

10 Years Ago the Gazette featured Caleb Fisher, son of Doug and Shelley Fisher in “The Eyes of a Soldier.”

Remember When Rooster’s Chicks played ball in Victoria?  This photo was taken in approximately 1973.

Remember When the twelve Fredrickson brothers were a baseball team?  This photo was taken circa 1930.

Happy 90th, Dave Kocka by daughter Patti and family.  “His is the face that many of you have come to know these past many years in Victoria.  He is the man who always believed in teaching by example and offering a kind word and welcoming smile to everyone he meets.”

Senator Scott Jensen by Jillian Skaar, Communications.  “Senator Jensen took the oath of office and began his first session in the MN Senate on January 3rd alongside all 66 of his Senate colleagues.”

Cadet of the Year by Laurie Miller, Twin Cities Squadron.  “James Erickson was honored by the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps on January 7th at the Minneapolis Richfield American Legion.

The Heart of the Olingers by Sue Orsen, The Victoria Gazette.  “Ralph and Janet Olinger have been married over 60 years but they’ve known each other more than 80 years.  In fact, they were practically born together — in the same year, in the same hospital, delivered by the same Dr. Sanford, albeit six months apart.  In many ways, their hearts beat as one almost from the beginning.  Click on Front Page.

Why People Play Bad Golf by Tom Abts, Deer Run Golf Pro.  “Remember Dave Letterman’s Top Ten Lists?  Here is my Top Ten List for why people play bad golf.  Trying to scoop the ball is by far the main reason most people play bad golf.  It’s not even close.”

Utopian and Idyllic Victoria by Mike Wartman, Former Resident of Victoria.  “I do have to admit that Victoria has an exclusive history and attitude of trying to keep people out.  And yet Victoria has always saved the day for inclusiveness and togetherness.”

Victoria’s Library Log by Kathy Bognanni, Carver County Library System.  “Join us for a special Valentine’s storytime featuring stories and songs as well as a craft.”

The Benefit of Brokenness by Pastor Kevin Dibbley, Waterbrooke Christian Church.  “I had the privilege in January to be part of a discussion group led by Dr. John M. Perkins.  When he was questioned about his imprisonment and torture, he said that initially he only saw his torturers as the worst of what human beings could be.”

Happy 90th, Mama!  by Sue Orsen.  “We were home at Ghent for my mother’s 90th birthday on January 16th along with my two sisters, three of my four brothers, and several spouses, grandchildren, and some of their 35 great grandchildren.”

Moose on the Run in Tioga, ND by Jenny Norgaard.  “I took these pictures of two big moose as I was driving down the road only 1.25 miles south of our house.  Last year a moose was in the field close to my car as I was driving up to town only a half mile north of our house.”
