Victoria’s Corner Bar.  Nightly Specials and Menus.  952-443-9944

by Sue Orsen

When we visit the shopping malls, grocery stores, and greeting card shops, the pharmacies and restaurants, and many other retail establishments, we can accurately discern that much of our springtime culture revolves around Easter.  It's impossible to deny.  We are surrounded by big box and little box stores with chocolate bunnies and fuzzy chicks, malted milk eggs and marshmallow peeps, baskets with handles and bows in pastels.  All of it is related to Easter.

We are also surrounded by big and little churches that give a different kind of evidence of the season.  When we visit a church at this time we see Easter lilies and empty tombs, Easter bonnets and hosannas, Easter vigils and sunrise services.  There is also a special joy and reverence in our churches, both seen and felt and also heard.

With the glory of Eastertide in our midst for the next seven weeks, until Pentecost Sunday, it seems fitting and right for the Gazette to spend a little time with the pastors who helped us prepare for the season and celebrate it here in Victoria.  There are five churches within the city limits of Victoria.  On Easter Monday I emailed each of the five pastors the identical ten questions, and I dared to ask them to return their responses to me by Holy Thursday.  They did, and are appearing here in alphabetical order of the churches.

As for the peeps, they won't last until Pentecost.

Interview questions and replies from the five pastors are located in the paper edition of the Gazette.  Click here for a synopsis:
