KEEPING DON URAM ON BOARD

AT TOP OF THE HELM OF VICTORIA STAFF

Don Uram was hired to serve as Victoria City Administrator in June of 2008 for a three-year term that would expire this June of 2011.  On April 11th, a couple months  before that terms ends, Victoria city councilmembers and Mr. Uram approved a continuing agreement whereby he will continue to work as the Victoria City Administrator, this time with no date or term specific.

Said Councilmember Tom O'Connor, "It ought to be said that this city is very lucky to have Don and a man of his experience and dedication and ability.  There have been remarkable changes over the course of the last three years, and I expect that progress will continue.  This is one dedicated individual and we're very, very fortunate to have him at the helm of our staff."

Replied Administrator Uram, "I appreciate the opportunity to continue my work here.  I would have to say that  I really view this as lifetime employment," he said with a smile, "so you'll be stuck with me for a while.  Quiet honestly, I appreciate the opportunity.  There are a lot of exciting things that we have before us as the city continues to grow.  Our businesses continue to thrive, so it's going to be an exciting time for us and I'm looking forward to continuing our work.  Thank you."

Added Councilmember Kim Roden, "I really appreciate Don being here.  I appreciate the work you do here and the leadership you provide.  I'm really pleased you're here."

Mayor Mary Thun also thanked Don Uram for his work, adding, "We look forward to lifetime employment."

Mr. Uram is a resident of Eden Prairie.  His background includes a Bachelor's Degree in Geography, Master's Degree in City Planning, and an MBA in Finance.  Among other capacities, he worked 18 years for the City of Eden Prairie as City Planner, Finance Manager, Community Development Director, and Director of Management and Budget.

MADELYN CREEK CONTINUES TO DEVELOP

NOW BUILDING QUAD UNITS WITH BASEMENTS

Council unanimously voted 5-0 on April 24th to approve a replat for Madelyn Creek 2nd Addition.  The replat results in a reduction of eight townhome units.

Holly Kreft, Community Development Director, reported that the Planning Commission held a public hearing to consider the replat, that they unanimously recommended approval, and that city staff is also recommending approval.

"It was the city that approached the developer," said Holly, "about the trail going in there and about deeding a piece of the property at the corner to the city."

Explained Mayor Mary Thun, "The Victoria Business Owners Association would like to put a lit sign at the corner.  I think you better let people know there will be a sign there, and that it will be lit."

Stated Brad Kerber of Kerber Family Homes, "We were not aware of anything lighted being placed there."  It was pointed out, however, that the grade is very steep and there is a berm at the corner so the light should not be a problem.

The replat includes a change from six-unit and five-unit slab on grade townhomes in that northeast corner of the development to quad-homes with basements because there is a demand for basements and four-unit structures.  Explained  Brad Kerber, "It will be a lookout style basement, not an old-fashioned basement, and it will be above the emergency overflow of Madelyn Creek."

There was also some discussion about parkland dedication along Highway 5.  Said Ann Mahnke, Director of Public Works and Park & Rec Director, "The site is about five acres with a creek running through it.  It has about one acre of usable space.  The developer would like to locate a play area.  Residents include a mixture of young people with new families and others.  It's a pretty good mix."  There is also opportunity to enlarge that parkland space when development occurs on property just to the west of Madelyn Creek.

Total number of residential units previously planned for Madelyn Creek was 120.  That number is now 112.  Number of units decreased from 8 units per acre to about 7.5 units per acre, which is not a significant decrease, said Holly.
