MOVING SOUTH OF MARSH LAKE ROAD

SKETCH PLAT HAS 64 NEW HOMES

         Council received a sketch plat February 22nd for the Meat Cutter's Property located on the south side of Marsh Lake Road, west of County Road 43.  Developer is Hartman Communities of Victoria.  At sketch plat stage,  council gives comment as it heads to the preliminary plat stage.  Stated Ben Landhauser, Community Development Director, "The property is guided for low density, around 3 units per acre.  Annexation of the area hasn't been completed yet.  We're looking for feedback."  Size of the property is 38.2 acres.

 

DEER RUN STREETS TO COST MUCH LESS

LOW GAS PRICES A FACTOR FOR ASPHALT

         Council voted unanimously on February 8th to accept bids and award a contract for Deer Run street and drainage improvements.  The city received seven bids.  The good news is that everything came in lower than estimated.  GMH Asphalt, Chaska, was low bidder at $1,984,859.  City Engineer Cara Geheren stated total project cost will be $2,553,00 including engineering design, construction administration, geotechnical services, fiscal costs, other contingencies. 

 

VICTORIA TRAIL CONNECTIONS IMPORTANT

BUT BAVARIA ROAD NOT MOST IMPORTANT

         At the end of a discussion on February 8th about constructing a trail along Bavaria Road, Council made no motion to order a study to determine its feasibility.  Cost of the study, which was recommended by staff, would have been $20,000 to $25,000.  Total cost of constructing 6,600 feet of trail along the east side of Bavaria Road, from Hwy 5 south to 86th Street, was estimated at $615,000.  A successful DNR Regional Trail matching grant application could have decreased that amount by $250,000.

 

JOINT PROJECT WITH CHANHASSEN

A SHORT 450 FEET OF STREET LIES IN VICTORIA

         On February 22nd, Council authorized City Engineer Cara Geheren to complete  a feasibility study for improvements to West 77th Street. located on the east side of Victoria east of Minnewashta Parkway, just north of Faith Lutheran Church.  Explained Cara,  "The first 450 feet of the street is actually in the City of Victoria."  The rest of the street is located in Chanhassen and part of their street improvement project.

 

VICTORIA OKAYS 1ST PHASE WATER STUDY

LOOKING AT PRAIRIE DU CHIEN AND JORDAN

         Council held a 5:30 p.m. workshop on Monday evening, February 8th, to review water use in the City of Victoria, then held a second workshop at 5:30 p.m. on February 22nd to learn about siting a new well, and made a unanimous decision at the subsequent council meeting to authorize an expenditure of $29,700 for Phase One: A Detailed Desktop study.  The issue is municipal water in the City of Victoria.  It could cost $144,000 in studies alone, before a new drop of water is brought into the system.

 

PUBLIC WORKS INITIATES FLEET PROGRAM

TO HELP WITH PURCHASE AND REPLACEMENT

         Staff will move forward to implement a Fleet Management Program as drafted and presented on February 8th by Ann Mahnke and Chuck Almjheld, Victoria Public Works Director and Deputy Director, respectively.  Stated Ann, "Public Works has been working on a Fleet Management Program, a more comprehensive way to evaluate vehicles.  We're trying to develop a better program for all of us.  This program was developed by a woman out of Ohio, so we know exactly when we could replace or should replace a piece of equipment."
