A friend and I were talking a couple weeks ago about Fridays in Lent and that it's not a difficult thing to do. It's not meant to be difficult. It's meant to be a reminder of what happened on Good Friday a couple thousand years ago.

People born after 1970 are often not aware that Fish Fridays were once an all-year round thing, not just during Lent. School lunch menus centered around fish sandwiches on Fridays. Restaurant menus had special Friday food plates. There was accommodation everywhere to Fish Fridays which often included egg salad sandwiches and pasta meals as well.

We agreed that something was lost when we lost year-round Fish Fridays. But something was also gained. Everyone knows there are more calories in red meat than in fish! And so when I reached into the minnow bucket, I pulled out David Beaver of Victoria. The fishhook was wrapped around the "C" in the Waconia Ford ad on page 24 last month. The $10 prize will be on its way to Mr. Busy as a Beaver very soon. There's another fishhook hidden in this issue of the Gazette.
