FARM FRESH EGGS AND CHICKS NEXT DOOR?

         City Planner Erin Smith presented councilmembers on May 8th with pros and cons of raising chickens in a residential neighborhood.  Two young residents, Gretchen and Lindsey Soucek, requested permission that evening to have chickens in their yard. 

 

MEADOWS OF WASSERMANN LAKE

SKETCH PLAT OF 87 MORE HOMES FOR VICTORIA

         Council reviewed the sketch plat for 87 homes in Meadows of Wassermann Lake proposed for part of the Hesse property on the north side of Marsh Lake Road.  As usual, the sketch plat stage allows a developer to hear what councilmembers have to say about it.

 

ARTS CONSORTIUM OF CARVER COUNTY

INVITED BY HARTMANS TO OFFICE IN VICTORIA

         Barb Hone, a resident of Chaska on Fairway Drive, spoke May 8th to Victoria city councilmembers on behalf of the Arts Consortium of Carver County.  "We're asking for your support as a city and as individuals," she said.  "I'm here to ask if you'd be a major sponsor.”

 

HIRING A THIRD FULL TIME EQUIVALENT

FOR VICTORIA’S BLDG INSPECTION DEPT.

         Council voted to authorize the city manager to hire another building inspector for the City of Victoria, costing the city about $70,000 in 2017.  "We're looking to hire mid-year," said City Manager Laurie Hokkanen.  "Building permits have been exceeding forecasted numbers.  We would like to provide the service that people have come to expect.”

 

NEW RESIDENTIAL ZONING ORDINANCES

SOME NEW IN VICTORIA, SOME MEMORIALIZED

         Council voted 4-0 on May 22nd to amend the city's official zoning ordinance by repealing and replacing the section of Residential Districts, the PUD section, and the section on Landscape and Open Space. 

 

NEW STANDARDS FOR DOWNTOWN DRAINAGE

GRANT DOLLARS HELP IMPROVE VICTORIA LAKES

         Council voted 4-0 on May 8th to authorize Wenck Associates to provide professional services for the Downtown Basin Enhancement Project.  City cost for those services cannot exceed $42,430. 

 

VICTORIA TO SPEND $850,000

TO PURCHASE PROPERTY ON LAKE WASSERMANN

         Council voted 4-0 to approve an expenditure of $850,000 to purchase an acreage located on the west shores of Lake Wassermann.  The property totals 30.5 acres and includes from 12.5 to 13 acres of usable land that are proposed to be developed into a waterfront park.

 

SEVERAL VICTORIA STREETS TO BE RECLAIMED

AND OVERLAID IN 2017 IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

         Council voted 4-0 on May 22nd to approve the plans and specifications and advertise for bids for the 2017 street and drainage improvements.  Total project cost is estimated at $1.3 million. 

 

FOURTEEN CITY MEMBERS IN THE LMCD

VICTORIA’S LEVY IS ABOUT $24,000/YEAR

         Ann Hoeschler, Victoria rep on the LMCD, attended the May 22nd city council meeting, about the annual LMCD budget.  "The city's levy is going down a little bit, but the budget is going up," she said. 

 

VICTORIA SEEKS ATTORNEY GENERAL OPINION

AS KILDOW BACKS AWAY FROM CITIZENS GROUP

         City Attorney Bob Vose on May 8th reviewed with Council that the MN State Attorney General Opinion being sought is in regard to City Manager Laurie Hokkanen's payment of attorney's fees in regard to the Funk lawsuit and attorney correspondence in the council packet.

 

RESIDENTS WANT COUNCIL TO MOVE ON

LEGAL BATTLES IN VICTORIA TAKE HEAVY TOLL

         Four residents spoken under the Open Forum part of the Council Agenda on May 8th and two spoke under the Open Forum on May 22nd.

         The following letters of resignation were received in May from members of the Victoria For a Lifetime Committee.

 

STARTING DISCUSSION OF LAKE OVERLOOK

AT VICTORIA’S BAYFRONT PARK AND BANDSTAND

         Ann Mahnke, Public Works/Parks Director, reported on an overlook concept for property located between Bayfront Park and the Charlson Thun Community Bandstand.  Council okayed further discussion.

 

AUTHORIZING PRELIMINARY DESIGN SERVICES

TO RECONSTRUCT STIEGER LN & ADD PARKING

         Council voted to authorize Bolton and Menk to complete the preliminary design phase for reconstruction of Stieger Lake Lane from City Hall east to Hwy 5, in an amount not to exceed $40,445.  The design will improve the street and identify a number of parking spaces.
