To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  I just finished reading about your parents in the May issue of the Gazette and looking at the pictures.  They look great and seem to enjoy their life together with all the kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.  What a beautiful couple.

Love, Sr. Marilyn Smolinski, St. Louis, Missouri

To the Editor:

Thank you so much for including the news of my designation as an ICMA Credentialed Manager in the April issue of the Gazette.  This is a goal I've had since entering the profession, and I appreciate you recognizing it and helping me celebrate.  I've received many kind words from those who saw it.

Laurie Hokkanen, Victoria City Manager, Victoria, Minnesota

To the Editor:

Hi, Susan.  Keep up the good work.  I enjoy your paper.

Love, Aunt Clarone, Corte Madera, California

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  I called our mayor and discussed city issues and opportunities.  I urged him to concentrate on current and future concerns and to put past issues to bed.  He assured me he would try to do this, and we hope he will.

I am sending you a picture of the Chanhassen Planning Commission in 1978.  I served as chairman for three years.  At our planning and city council meetings, we always had our city attorney present to be sure no rules were violated.  It is my recommendation that we do the same for our growing city of Victoria.

Just when I think you cannot issue a better month's paper, you do!  I know the Victoria city meetings can be exhausting as well as frustrating at times.  Your April issue is a gem.

         Mal MacAlpine, Victoria, Minnesota

EDITOR'S NOTE:  Thank you for writing, Mr. MacAlpine.  Just so you know, there is also a city attorney at Victoria's council meetings, both open and closed, for that very reason.  The first city attorney for Victoria that I remember from long ago was Bob Nicklaus of Chaska

To the Editor:

Greetings, Sue.  Thank you for your professional journalism, coverage, and reporting in the City Scoop pages of the Gazette of historic happenings local residents won't find elsewhere.  This is especially true today considering how fast the world seems to be running from traditional news reporting.  We are hooked on the Gazette.

Speaking of hooked, the May fishhook is located on page 35, lower right photograph of our granddaughter Christine Piwnica, and it didn't interfere with her perfect golf swing.

         Stan Hamerski, Chaska, Minnesota

To the Editor:

Hi, Susan.  Very happy that you have both your parents.  They sound like wonderful people.  Now that both my parents are gone, I find myself oftentimes thinking of them.  A certain look, phrase, or laugh they had will alternately make me smile and then feel sad.

         John Chapman, Victoria, Minnesota

To the Editor:

I am sure this probably finds you in the frontier towns of North Dakota but, if not, our longtime Postmaster Barb Hoffman was trying to sneak out of town today unnoticed, as is her wont, on her way to retirement.

Roger went in to mail some large envelopes to the California family, and Barb  asked after my mom and said, "Isn't it time for her annual summer visit?" -- and then dropped the bomb that we knew was coming but dreaded because no one is as efficient or knows more about the best way to mail things and the way that the odds are the surest that the intended might get your package even if you are mailing peanut butter to a friend's daughter in the Peace Corps in Lithuania than Barb.

She is retiring today, Friday, May 26th!  This is the last chance to get her in her natural habitat.  May Barb have a well deserved retirement and a break from a public that sometimes doesn't realize a good thing until it's gone.  I will miss Barb's direct efficiency sprinkled with her dry wit the most.

Sincerely, Vicki and Roger Bont, Victoria, Minnesota
