As I write this little column today, I am a fisherman's widow. I don't mind being Home Alone sometimes. As a matter of fact, it's a little vacation for me as well as for the fisherman. It's a break, an intermission, a holiday of sorts. I'm not sitting in a boat on a lake up in Canada with a fishing pole in my hands waiting for a fish to snatch the bait. I'm sitting in a comfortable swivel chair at a computer with a keyboard at my hands not waiting for anything in particular. I glance out my window and see the lush carpet of grass highlighted by pots of Electric Orange Sun Impatiens. Rains we've had this spring have been gentle and nourishing, unlike the flooding rains of last June. Heat and humidity have not yet arrived so, as I've mentioned before, I sleep with the windows open, listening to lonesome trains traveling the night and then the birds that start chirping at 5 in the morning, like clockwork. And so like clockwork I dipped into the minnow bucket and pulled out Marlaine Gnan who was coming up for air. Congratulations, Marlaine. You win the $10 drawing. The fishhook was hidden in the 'y' of the word Simply in the KleinBank ad on page 31 of the May Gazette. There's another fishhook hidden in this issue of the Gazette. If you'd like to be part of the drawing, email Sue@VictoriaGazette.com telling of its location this month or use P.O. Box 387, Victoria, MN 55386 and sinker in the mail. In the meantime, I'm enjoying my little time at Home Alone. |
