LAKETOWN 9TH ADDITION REZONED

PRELIMINARY PLAT HAS THREE CONDITIONS

Five hours was the length of time that councilmembers and staff spent in their chairs Tuesday evening, May 26th, at the Victoria City Council Chambers on Stieger Lake Lane, until 10:30 p.m.  The first hour was an unrelated workshop.  Biggest majority of the next four hours centered on the 9th Addition proposed for the Laketown development.  It included a public hearing.

The Victoria Elementary School is located on Red Fox Drive, in the Laketown neighborhood.  Laketown 9th is generally northwest of the school and southeast of Lake Wasserman.

SURVEY RESULT:  VICTORIA STANDS OUT

ON A LOCAL AND NATIONWIDE  BASIS

City Manager Laurie Hokkanen reviewed results of the citizen survey with council in a workshop setting on May 11th.  Mayor Tom O'Connor pointed out that 92% of respondents rated the quality of life in Victoria as good or excellent, and 91% rated Victoria as a good to excellent place to live.  "That's quite a testimony," he stated.

JUGGLING ALL OPPORTUNITIES

REGARDING AN EVENT CENTER FOR VICTORIA

City Manager Laurie Hokkanen reviewed the Lions proposal for a Community Event Center on May 11th and outlined next steps in the process.  "The Lions are at the beginning stages.  We're juggling all opportunities right now," she stated.

"They're looking to find a permanent home," said Laurie, since the old City Hall is scheduled to be demolished in June.  "A building committee has done a fair amount of work.  The location is less important than the concept of an event center.  Tonight we'll revisit the topic.  Dave Lura and Chuck Freiberg are here tonight to respond to questions."  Dave and Chuck are members of the Lions Building Committee.

SEVEN GARBAGE HAULERS IN VICTORIA

NEIGHBORHOODS CAN TAKE IT DOWN TO ONE

Council received information May 26th in regard to starting a neighborhood organized garbage collection.  Intent would be to decrease truck traffic in the neighborhoods, decrease wear and tear on the streets, and possibly reduce rates by working as a group rather than an individual homeowner.

Said City Manager Laurie Hokkanen, "We don't want to mandate, but to make it easier for residents to organize.
