The Victoria

GAZETTE

June 2012

To the Editor:

I picked up a Gazette at Mackenthun's in Waconia and found the fishhook on page 5 in Addie's drawing.  I used to get the Gazette and after my husband died I moved around a lot and I always enjoyed the Gazette.  I live in Waconia now.

To the Editor:

The Waconia Blessing House is now closed.  Dismantling 35 years of life in Waconia, moving into a friend's home, and re-ordering life in Victoria has been a great challenge.  But I look forward to the new adventure in Victoria!  Also look forward to seeing you in the new Blessing House.  Expected opening date is this Fall 2012.

To the Editor:

As another election season comes upon us, I would like to take this opportunity to announce that I will be a candidate for the new Carver County Commissioner District #3 in 2012.  My family and I are grateful to the many friends and neighbors that have encouraged me to run for election this year.

Constituents have made it clear that they are satisfied with the current County Board's performance of continued reduction of property taxes on average valued homes.

It was unfortunate that the folks in St. Paul raised property taxes on commercial and high valued residential homes through an unprecedented tax shift formula.  This property tax increase is particularly unfair to our main street businesses that provide a majority of the jobs as well as being vibrant community supporters.

My commitment will always be to work for a more cost effective county government in spite of State and Federal intrusion that unnecessarily increases the size of government at all levels.  We need conservative common sense approaches to delivering government service, not impractical dictated mandates.

Thank you for your past support and I look forward to continuing to serve you on the Carver County Board.

         Commissioner Randy Maluchnik

         Carver County Board

To the Editor:

Beginning May 30th/31st, you'll need to plan additional time for your travels along Hwy 5 in Victoria.

At 5 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30th, we'll close Hwy 5 to "through traffic" between Hwy 41 and Auburn Drive.  Don't worry.  Local traffic will be maintained and you'll be able to reach all homes and businesses.  However, you may have to modify your route because additional travel time is a given.

Within the broader "local traffic only" closure, the section of Hwy 5 between the two Stieger Lake Lane junctions will also be closed at 5 a.m. Wednesday, May 30th.  Stieger Lake Lane itself will remain open to accommodate local traffic, and all businesses will remain open and accessible.

Both closures will end by August 30th.  You can also get a few more details on current and future traffic changes on MnDOT's Hwy 5 website:  www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/hwy5victoria/index.html.

To the Editor:

I think I found the fishhook in Addie's aquarium drawing on page 5 last month.  I thought I better send a note to you, as I don't find it very often.  Keep up the good work.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  I'm interested in the Diethelm story, "The Work of Our Mother:  When We Were Young," in your May 2011 issue and also the Remember When section on the Rhoy/Aretz barn in June 2011.  Would I be able to purchase these back copies or get copies of these editions?  Thank you.  Whenever you find them is time for me.  I live in Henderson and will be in town for Liz Diethelm's funeral today.
