June 2012

Kasey Liebeg  Yes, I did get a hole in one on Monday, May 14th, at the Chaska Town Course.  I'm a sophomore at Chanhassen High School. I am on the golf team and was golfing in a conference match when it happened.  It was on hole #14, which is a par 3, 157-yard hole and I used a pitching wedge.

John Maertens from Chaska's team was in my foursome and told me, "Dude, you just got a hole in one."  It's never happened to me before and I'd be lying if I didn't say I was in shock.

My parents built our house in Deer Run sixteen years ago when they were expecting me, so I guess you could say I've grown up on the Deer Run Golf Course.  I've been up at the driving range since I could hold a club.  I've worked at the course the past three years and have made some of my closest friends through golf.  I really enjoy golf, wish I was better, but that's what practice is for, right?

Thanks so much for your interest, Sue.  This was a blessing  for me to get, but the true blessing has been in the excitement and kindness so many people have shown me.

Generosity of Spirit. The SouthWest Metro Chamber of Commerce Foundation awarded six scholarships to graduating seniors at their luncheon on May 23rd at the Hazeltine National Golf Club.  Each year the Foundation Committee interviews students in a well-vetted process to select students who demonstrate a generosity of spirit.  Those who receive a scholarship valued at $1,000, which is payable toward tuition at any accredited two-year, four-year, traditional, vocational, or technical college.

Students awarded scholarhips in 2012 include (front, l-r): Emilee Nyberg, Kylie Andersen, Makenzie Krocak.  Standing:  Kirsten Augdahl, Matthew Martin, Katherine Fischenich of Victoria.

The scholarships are awarded to students without regard to athletic or academic accomplishments, but rather to those showing a great generosity of spirit.  The Foundation is affiliated with the SouthWest Metro Chamber of Commerce.
