Victoria Moments

June 2010

WELCOME, MIA MARIE, INTO OUR FAMILY.

It was a month to remember plus That Was The Weekend That Was.  (How many of you in Gazette Land remember TW3?)  Family gatherings abounded, none more important than the birth of our fourth grandchild.

Amelia Marie was born to Nick and Jen Orsen of Brooklyn Park on Sunday, May 9th, 2010, Mother’s Day, at 11:05 p.m., three to four weeks before her anticipated due date, and spent a few days in the special care unit of Abbot Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.  She weighed 5 lbs. 6 oz. and measured 20” in length, and is growing by leaps and bounds.  Her little big sister is Sophia, age 18 months.  Proud grandparents are David and Helen Ellingson of Waskish, Minnesota, and Allan and Sue Orsen of Victoria, Minnesota.  Great grandparents are Joe and Betty Claeys of Ghent, Minnesota, who now have 24 great grandchildren.

BUSY AS A BEAVER.  It’s not Turkey in the Straw and it’s not Jack and the Beanstalk -- it’s not even Bob the Builder since his name is Patrick -- but the place does make you feel like you stepped into a make-believe storybook world.  Shrek, anyone?  We visited the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum on Saturday, May 15th, and watched Patrick Dougherty weave his wonders like an above-ground beaver.  Scaffolding was required to construct the big “building,” as though it were being braced to live on for decades or centuries like other structures at the Arboretum.  However, Patrick’s creation will remain in place for less than a year.
