Larry Bodahl, city administrator of Victoria for 12 years, wrote informative and also thoughtful columns for the Gazette from 1979 until elected in 1990 to the MN House. In 1981 Larry asked if I’d attend city council meetings and report on them for pay. I did. Those Gazette pages became Victoria’s first city newsletter. Larry patiently taught me about resolutions, ordinances, and city budgets. |

Bernie Workman of Chaska answered my notice in the Gazette that I was looking for somebody to get ads for me. For five years (1982-1987) we delighted in each other’s company, spending hours at my kitchen counter reviewing information, some of it scribbled on the back of napkins. Bernie taught me to enjoy doing business with those who do business. She died on December 29th, 1987, at age 53.
