Thanks for Thirty Continued |
Al Folden, former postmaster in Victoria, wrote a monthly column for the Gazette called Postmaster Postscripts, in which he regularly featured the fictitious and funny Aunt Martha. Al arrived at the Victoria P.O. in 1979 and retired in 1995, writing all that time. He taught me about mailing newspapers, labeling, weighing mailbags, flats, and zip codes. Al died May 29th, 2006. He was only 73.

Fr. Elstan Coghill, OFM, wrote for the Gazette from 1985 to 1996, his years of tenure here at St. Victoria. Father’s stories, later published in Prints of a Priest, were so word-wise and entertaining, with his hilarious turn of phrase, that I thought the Gazette would not survive without him. He pointed me to St. Francis of Assisi and the depths of our Catholic faith. Father died May 9th, 2008, at age 85. |
