Roger Stein, naturalist at Lowry Nature Center in Victoria, was a member of the Victoria Chamber and our jointly sponsored Summer Day in the Park in the ‘80’s. Roger’s writings were lifted from nature’s encyclopedia, where his knowledge and interests reside. His happy disposition and infectious chuckle endeared him to creatures of the jungle, including this editor, till his retirement in 1999. |

Ethel Ausink began writing the senior citizens column for the Gazette back in 1994. Soon thereafter, Ethel ventured into the arena of ideas that affect not only senior citizens but all citizens. In that arena, she dares to be counter cultural rather than a follower of popular culture which is not so popular as it portrays itself. Ethel is a woman after my own heart and I appreciate her writing for the Gazette.
