MnDOT APPROVES DIRECTIONAL SIGN

POINTING TOWARD VICTORIA ON HIGHWAY 212

Stated Jim Paulsen on June 28th, “Victoria is going to a sign on Highway 212 that says we’re on the map!!”

It was back on May 24th that Mayor Mary Thun, Administrator Don Uram, Planner Holly Kreft, and Jim Crowley of the Victoria Business Development Committee attended a meeting at a MnDOT facility in Golden Valley and spoke to MnDOT’s External Sign Variance Committee.

Holly had prepared and presented a very thorough package with compelling information about why there should be directional signs to Victoria located on Hwy 212.  Mayor Thun also presented substantial and compelling reasons for the sign, which included ease of residents coming and going from Victoria, growth in the orderly annexation area, and directing people to Victoria’s business area.

Official word of MnDOT’s decision arrived June 28th:  “The Committee reviewed your request and recommended that Victoria be added to the existing sign for Waconia in the westbound direction of US 212 at County Road 10.”

BIKERS HAD MISERABLE WEATHER

VICTORIA HAS “ABSOLUTELY PERFECT” FACILITY

City Administrator Don Uram reported there were 114 cyclists participating in the bike race on Saturday,  June 12th, that began and ended at the Victoria Recreation Center.  It was sponsored in conjunction with Exel Cycles of Excelsior.

“The weather was miserable,” said Don.  “But all in all, it was well attended. We’ve got live footage of the race.  They said the venue is the best they’ve ever participated in, that the facility was absolutely perfect.  There’s a meeting tomorrow to discuss for the future.”

“The original estimate was for about 200 drivers,” he added.  “This race kept out a lot of amateurs who only race when it’s sunny, and I don’t blame them.  The pros were here.”

Councilmember Jim Paulsen pointed out it was a sanctioned ride and that some riders came from St. Cloud and South Dakota.  He said some of the riders were on $8,000 bikes.  He added that the hot showers at the Victoria Recreation Center after the cold ride were very much appreciated.
