         "Make no mistake.  The City of Victoria is in big trouble.  There was enormous positive momentum coming from 2016 which benefitted the City in 2017, despite all of the divisiveness.

 

MENTAL HEALTH FACILITY ON VICTORIA’S BORDER

“ALL KINDS OF FUZZY THINGS WILL BE HAPPENING”

         Although located within city limits of Chaska, the site is on the edge of the City of Victoria.  Closest neighbors are single family homes across the road within Victoria and near the Victoria Elementary School.

 

CARVER COUNTY YARD ON VICTORIA’S BORDER

“DUST AND WEAR AND TEAR ON A GRAVEL ROAD”

         Carver County is proposing a new county brush and yard waste collection and transfer site on Bavaria Road and 82nd Street.  The site, which is owned by the MN Landscape Arboretum,  is adjacent to the south side of the Hartman Tree Farm and across the road on the west side from the Applewood neighborhood and Emerald Crest. 

 

FIVE VICTORIA CROSSWALKS NEED WORK

TO MAKE THEM SAFE FOR A WALKING COMMUNITY

         City Engineer Cara Geheren identified on November 27th, five strategic intersections in Victoria in need of crosswalks and upgrades for safety of pedestrians.  "All of the crosswalks are on county roads.”

 

FIRST PHAST OF WORK TO BEGIN

AT VICTORIA’S FIRST CITY-OWNED WATERFRONT PARK

         Council approved Wassermann Lake Park Scope of Services at a cost of $70,000 (to come from Park Fund), and authorized execution of purchase agreement for the park property from MCWD for $850,000.  Both city and the Watershed District will pursue grant opportunities

 

STATE APPEALS COURT AFFIRMS DISTRICT COURT

AND ALSO THE FOUR VICTORIA DEFENDANTS

         All the State's opinions were favorable to the defendants -- current Councilmembers Jim Crowley and Tom Strigel, former Mayor Tom O'Connor, and former Councilmember Lani Basa.  All the State's opinions in the Appeals Court went against plaintiff appellants -- Thomas Funk, Ken Goulart, Lawrence Gubbe, et al, who had appealed the judgment of the District Court.  Plaintiff arguments were rejected.  The appeal netted the plaintiffs nothing.

 

RULING OF MN STATE APPEALS COURT

MAY NOT END LAWSUITS FOR THE PEOPLE OF VICTORIA

         “If a precedent ruling is to be overturned,” said plaintiff Mr. Gubbe,  “particularly one that has such far-reaching consequences as the one in question, the court preference is made by the Supreme Court and, therefore, we will craft an opinion that almost ensures that the case will be brought before the Supreme Court.”

         The PW Department in the City of Victoria was appreciating the sunshine and clear roads prior to the storm that blew in the evening of Monday, December 4th, but they were prepared for winter! 

 

STEPPING TOWARD SOLUTIONS

TO INCREASE PARKING IN DOWNTOWN VICTORIA

         On November 27th, Council voted 3-1-1 to add 68 new parking spaces along the south side of Stieger Lake Lane from City Hall east toward Hwy 5, past the Enki Brewing building.  They should be available by the fall of next year, 2018.
