ABOUT THE GOOD SAMARITAN.

Of his own initiative, the Samaritan expends his own time, energy, and money to rescue a gravely wounded fellow human being who lies before him.  He does not restlessly rove from land to land looking for causes to throw himself into or lobby the government to help, much less seek out the robbers so that he may invite them to move into and take over his village.

ABOUT THE TEXAS MASSACRE.

Sunday, November 5th, was a day vomited up from the belly of hell itself. Satan paraded into the wide-open streets of Sutherland Springs, Texas, and tried to annihilate a small God-loving, Bible-preaching church. He literally stormed into that church and tried to obliterate that congregation.  In effect that same enemy in so many ways shook his fist and aimed his fiery gun of extinction at your church, your pulpit, your ministry and all you have ever wanted to do and be for Jesus Christ.  In every way that Sunday, our enemy wanted to end the existence of that First Baptist Church and the precious people of that church.  However, he was also attempting to end your church.  Satan showed his cruelty again.  He hates babies, little children and grandmothers.  He hates family and preachers of the gospel.  He hates the message of the gospel and what Christianity is doing in saving souls and changing people.

ABOUT FACEBOOK.

Speaking at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Sean Parker, founding president of Facebook, unloaded on Facebook, describing it as "exactly the kind of thing a hacker like myself would come up with because you're exploiting a vulnerability in human psychology."

Parker, who left Facebook in 2005, said the key to keeping people focused and returning to Facebook was to give them a steady, dopamine drip of validation.

"The inventors, creators, understood this consciously, and we did it anyway," said Parker.  He now worries that Facebook is changing society and "God only knows what it's doing to our children's brains."

He said the purpose of Facebook is to consume people.  People are always hunting for "the like," for acceptance, validation, and it's more addictive than cigarettes and alcohol.

ABOUT WRITING AND READING.

Writing and reading are, at best, part of a great and mysterious conversation -- or even communion -- that transcends time, geography, and cultures.  Writing can and should reveal our limitations and expand our limits; it should challenge us to see, know, and treasure what it true, good, and beautiful.  And so writing is both a joy and a responsibility, and in that way it is somewhat analogous to being a disciple of Christ: it is full of demands and full of graces.

ABOUT LIFE AND DEATH

Numbers don’t always tell the whole tale, but 732 people were murdered in Chicago in 2016, a horrible death toll.  That’s about an average day’s work for Planned Parenthood -- and they “only” do one-third of the abortions in America.  Estimates vary widely, but let’s say 200,000 people (a generous figure) have died in Iraq; that too is terrible.  America aborts five times that many children every year.  If 1,000,000 yearly were being killed by urban gangs or in an American war, there would be rioting all over the country.  It’s only right to be agitated first about that slaughter of the innocents, without losing sight of other matters.

         ABOUT CHRISTMAS

Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way.  When His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with Child of the Holy Spirit; and her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly.  But as he considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit; she will bear a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins."
