Dedicated to the sunshine of truth,

the moonshine of meeting deadlines,

and the starshine of Victoria.

To the Editor:

High water and flooding have churned up a lot of trash and debris around Minnehaha Creek and nearby lakes, all the more reason to attend the 8th annual Minnehaha Creek Cleanup on July 27th.

Last year about 1,200 volunteers helped collect two tons of trash around the creek and lakes.  We're upping the ante this year, aiming for three tons and offering a satellite location in St. Louis Park in addition to the usual event headquarters at Lake Hiawatha Park.

Volunteers will receive a free t-shirt, water bottle, trash bags, gloves, and a free BBQ lunch.

To the Editor:

The Rev. Darryl Bell, who entered pastoral ministry at Lake Auburn in the 1970's, is retiring.  His current congregation, The Promise in Ohio, is having a sendoff for Darryl the weekend of July 12-13.  Darryl and Jackie's son Bryce is hoping that we could send along memories from Darryl's time at Lake Auburn, words of appreciation and encouragement for this new chapter of their life and ministry:  brycebell@gmail.com.  Many things and every blessing.

To the Editor:

Summer is fading away and in another month is the parents' vacation.  The kids are back in school.  As kids we would have summer school.  I hated that.  I'd get stuck with math refresher classes.  It didn't make me any smarter.  I still was lousy at metrics, long division, and fractions.

I remember the 1st day of 9th grade I couldn't find the Speech 9 class.  I didn't know what it was.  I thought it was just a language arts class, talking proper grammar.  Nope.  It's stand in front of class and do a  speech.  Doing a speech in front of class was not my forte.  I was nervous.  I stuttered and my hands shook.  I did a speech on Minnesota in 9th grade, and in 10th grade it was chimpanzees.  By 10th grade I was adjusted.

Found the fishhook on page 15 in the Swanson Insurance ad.  It's overcast here at the Wisconsin cabin.  Hot, humid a.m. and cool breezy this afternoon.  Family leaves Monday morning and my nurse co-workers from Ridgeview Medical Center start arriving late Monday morning for our 32nd annual week of solving medicine problems.  We have a bite to eat and maybe a few drinks also.  Most of us have retired but we have been known as The Cabin Crew for these many years.  Lots of history.  Nothing like long-time good friends.

I got the Victoria paper today.  Love your pictures and articles.  As always, such a great read.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  It is with mixed emotions that I need to let you know that I've given my notice this morning, July 8th.  I've accepted a position with the City of Belle Plaine as their City Administrator.  My last day in the office here a Victoria will be July 22nd.  I've really enjoyed working with you over the years and getting to know you more.  I can't believe how big Addie and Gunnar are getting.  But that's what happens over eight years.  I will miss you and will get to officially say goodbye at the Monday, July  14th, city council meeting.  It was a hard decision, but on to new and exciting challenges.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  A nice surprise to get the $10 from the fishhook drawing.  I really enjoy the Gazette and reading the writings of Mike W., Tom. S., and the Up North Cabin Guy, as well as what you write.  The fishhook this time was on page 15 in the Swanson Insurance ad.  Thanks for the $$.
