To the Editor:

Greetings.  You know that Holly Kreft has given her notice to the City of Victoria and will be accepting a position as the City Administrator with the City of Belle Plaine.  On behalf of the Victoria Business Association, you are cordially invited to attend an Open House for Holly at the Victoria House on Tuesday, July 22nd, from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m.

No one has better demonstrated more dedication to our business community than Holly, so if you're unable to attend, please take a moment to show your gratitude by calling her and wishing her well.

Your attendance and participation is always appreciated.

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum Toast and Taste in the Gardens Party is the evening of Wednesday, July 16th.  This Arboretum fundraiser is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy fresh and local samples from Twin Cities eateries and sip regional wines and beers, all in the Arboretum gardens.

Please let me know if you and a guest would like to be included on the media complimentary list.  Just send me an email or simply reply to this one.  Hope to see you Wednesday at the Arboretum.

         Best regards,

         Barb DeGroot

To the Editor:

If you are printing anything about the Garden Crawl at Deer Run last night (glad to have you join the gang), be sure to call Bill and Elaine Scholl, the ambassadors of hospitality because they really are.  Every night they sit in their chairs outdoors and if anyone drives by, they get invited to sit for a spell.

To the Editor:

Good morning, Sue.  I am requesting that you post an event to your community calendar.  The Sisters of St. Paul's Monastery have served people in your area in the past and have friends who live in your area.  Christmas is far off but planning is already being made.

Christmas at the Monastery is the largest fundraiser for the Benedictine Sisters of St. Paul's Monastery. It features silent and live auctions, a Benedictine Bakery and Candy Shoppe, a tree with handmade ornaments and cards, and wine and gift card walls.

The public is invited to come and celebrate the season with the Sisters in their beautiful monastery.  Guests will be inspired by seasonal prayer and music and sample fabulous hors d'oeuvres and beverages.

Address of the Monastery is 2675 Benet Road, Maplewood, MN 55109.  The date is Saturday, December 6th, from 4 to 7 p.m.  Cost is $35 per person.  Contact Ann Bechtell to RSVP.  Call 651-777-8181.

Alumni and alumnae of the many schools in which the Sisters have taught will enjoy catching up with their teachers and friends.  Free on-site parking.

         Linda Anderson

         St. Paul, Minnesota

To the Editor:

Thanks for all your news each month.  All that water in June reminded me of the 1951 Chaska flood.  Our family  decided to drive to Chaska to see the flood and our mother, Catherine Hauwiller, took pictures, so we looked at the water years later.

In May 1965 we also had lots of water.  Four of our nuns were working for Archbishop Binz and his staff at 226 Summit Avenue in St. Paul.  He also had a cottage that got flooded with lots of mud.  It was like walking on ice.  Cleaning it up was quite a project.  We were the good sisters who helped with lots of soap and water.

Your July paper has pictures of some of our relatives.  It's always nice to see people we know, and everyone else too.  Thanks for including our mother in the March issue in the 10 Years Ago column.  Our dad died on September 25th, fifteen years ago.  All four of us --Rose, Margaret, James, and I -- went to the St. Victoria Catholic School.  We had good Benedictine sisters for teachers.  Sr. Rolaine and Sr. Eugene (now Sr. Eleanor) used to come for home visits.  So I joined the Benedictines in 1952.  We had twenty good years at St. Victoria, and then our parents enjoyed 40 years at the Watertown parish.

         God's peace to everyone.
