Are You Lonesome Tonight?

Dedicated to the sunshine of truth,

the moonshine of meeting deadlines,

The Victoria Gazette

All factors combined to make it the biggest draw to date on a Wednesday evening in downtown Victoria.  Nearly 1,500 people gathered on Wednesday, July 9th, 2014, to hear Elvis Presley sing our favorites as we wandered among the classic cars of yesterday.  In a strange way, the answer to the above question was, "Yes, we are kind of lonesome tonight."  When our thoughts go back in time, which is exactly what happens when we listen to Elvis, there is a bit of nostalgia, a wistful affection for the past.

The impersonator is Chris Olson, who is also billed as a tribute artist, an impressionist, and a performer.  Many people would agree that he is an outstanding talent who brings Elvis back to life.  It might not be so difficult to don the duds of the icon and style the hair and grow the sideburns, but to duplicate the voice of Elvis Presley takes an unusual talent.  Chris Olson has it.  The Victoria crowd smiled and swooned, especially when Elvis walked among them and draped scarves and leis around the necks of ladies.  The gentlemen husbands didn't mind at all

Randy Miller, President of the Victoria Business Association, is the man who keeps track of statistics and cars and other things associated with Classic Car Nights in Victoria.  Randy estimated there were 1,000 people in town the night of Wednesday, July 23rd (two weeks after the Elvis appearance) and 195 classic cars.  It was also another remarkable weather evening.  Thank you, Randy, and also Jerry Hartman, Dave Beneke, and Steve Schmieg for making Classic Car Nights possible in Victoria.

Classic Car Nights will continue from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. every other Wednesday evening in August and September.  The dates are August 6th, August 20th, September 3rd, and September 17th.  Plus, Classic Cars will be in town on Friday evening, August 15th, as part of the first evening of Volksfest.
