Have you heard about the latest rage? I’m not sure whether it should be called exotic or primitive or revolutionary, but it was a novelty that caught my ear and then my eye as I turned my entire self toward the TV and watched all the little fishes swimming around the see-through bucket and nibbling at those toes! They said it’s the latest rage: pedicure by fish!

I didn’t hear what kind of fish the salons are using, but they were about the size of small goldfish or minnows. And when the human foot was carefully set into that bucket, the little fish swarmed about the foot and began nibbling at the dead skin around the toes and heels of that foot. Yuck. The fish were giving the people a pedicure, two feet at a time.

For a moment, I suspected it might have been an advertisement for a Nemo movie. However, those suspicions were quickly dispelled. This was the real thing I was seeing, and seeing is believing. These were no animations. They were real fish feeding on the dead skin of the feet of real people. “People” is the accurate word, for men were also coming in for a pedicure by fish, not just women in fancy sandals.

When the pedicure by fish comes to Victoria, I’m wondering if the locale will be Salon Spatoria or Cabin Fever Sportings Goods. Strange bedfellows, in any case. Or should I say strange baitfellows?

Last month the fishhook was hidden on page 20 in the tent of the Excelsior Crazy Days ad. Everyone who sent me an entry with their name and the fishhook location was dropped in the minnow bucket. Doria Cobb of Victoria had her named plucked to win the $10. Congratulations, Doria. Maybe you can spend it under the big tent at the Carver County Fair.
