This isn't really a fishy story, since scallops are members of the mollusk family along with clams, mussels, and oysters.  Scallops are also not fish; however, they are often called shellfish and when on the verge of being old they have an odor that is distinctly fishy, and so it works for me.

I made a delicious meal of bacon wrapped scallops and bacon wrapped steaks for our son and his family one Sunday in March because I had wanted to make something very special for them.  I don't save my best meals and good china only for friends.

So we're sipping a glass of wine as I tie up loose ends of the meal, before turning on the broiler, and Nick says to me with a quizzical look, "What are you making for dinner?"  It's like he knew what I was going to say.  Sure enough, he and Jen made scallops and steak for a date-night just the evening before.  It was their Saturday night meal.  My meal was still good, but certainly not as special as I had hoped it would be.  So next time I'm calling before cooking!

And next time I'm going to hide the fishhook in a totally different venue.  Too many of you found it wrapped around the caption on page 23 of the March Gazette.  When I reached into the minnow bucket, for this monthly drawing to win the $10, I pulled out Eunice Rucks of Henderson.  Congratulations, Eunice.  I believe you emailed that you and your husband are members of your local Lions Club.

In any case, there's another fishhook hidden in this issue of the Gazette.  It's always a bit of a challenge for me, but I don't lose any sleep over it.  If you find it, drop a line to Sue@VictoriaGazette.com or use P.O. Box 387, Victoria, MN 55386 and sinker in the mail.  The early bird gets the worm, and so does the fisherman.
