GAZETTE

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  We're looking for an article on Father Robert Schmieg.  I found a historic reference to it in 2004 that said, "Ten years ago the Gazette featured Father Robert Schmieg, native Victoria son and longtime missionary in the Amazon Jungle of Brazil, in 'Family, How Are You?'"  Can you point me to where I might find this article that looks like it was done in 1994?

Father Robert is my uncle's uncle.  He visited often but I didn't get a copy of the article and came to thinking that would be nice to have.  I'm not sure how far back your digital papers go.  Let me know what the easiest way might be.  Thanks.

To the Editor:

Wow!  Thank you so much for the awesome article in the March paper.  So special for our team!  I just emailed all of the families and they are going to be jazzed.  Off to  State Tournaments on the 15th.  We couldn't be any more excited.  I would love to send copies of the paper to our relatives.  Where could I look to find them?

To the Editor:

Hi, Sue.  I was rather late in reading February's Gazette but finally did so last evening.  It is always "good stuff," but I must comment on your From the Editor column.  Your review of films was particularly interesting and well done.  Thank you very much.  May you continue to have a blessed Lent, particularly a beautiful Holy Week and Triduum, and then a joyous Easter.  Peace.

To the Editor:

I want to thank you for the excellent coverage you gave to the Westview Acres 2013 Senior Prom.  If you could send me five copies of the paper, I would greatly appreciate it.  I will mail you a check when you advise me of the charges.  Thank you in advance.

To the Editor:

I am a freelance copy editor.  In more than 20 years as a reporter and editor at daily and weekly newspapers as well as at magazines and nonprofits, I have learned that it's almost impossible to edit copy you've written yourself.  I have also learned firsthand how difficult it is to keep up your editorial quality against the grind of putting out a publication on a regular deadline.

I'm reconfiguring my business model to help papers improve their three or four most visible stories.  The plan is simple:  You email me your top several stories and I'll edit them, marking all changes.  You can use whichever changes you like.  Depending on the story, perhaps there won't be many changes at all, or perhaps the lede is buried, and I'll re-write the top seven grafs, or perhaps there are questions which you can choose to answer or let go.

I'm offering to put a new set of expert trained eyes on your most visible stories.  I charge $30/hour with the expectation that most stories will take about a half hour to edit.  That's a $15 insurance policy toward better journalism.

EDITOR'S NOTE:  You might want to change two of the words in your letter -- from "lede" to "lead" and "grafs" to "gaffs."
