DEER RUN BLOCK PARTY.  The Victoria neighbors on the crest of Deer Run Drive celebrated 15 years of block parties on Thursday evening, August 14th, with their traditional potluck and yard games, accompanied by a new taste -- growlers of every type available from Victoria's own Enki Brewing.  New neighbors, the Heath family and Donna  Harris were welcomed.  The neighbors and I rallied to help check off Linda Kosir's bucket list item to have her picture in the Gazette.  The consensus was that the neighborhood should gather more often.  The beer connoisseurs highly approved of Enki's brews.

MEL HAZELWOOD.

In 1964, I had my first experience setting up and working a Rusco Steel Storm Window display at the Grandstand at the MN State Fair.  At the time, Peter's Hotdogs were ten cents and a drink was a nickel.  My, how times have changed!

Each year I continued to set up and work the display and I've never missed a year of fun and hard work.  Much has changed, both at the Fair over these 50 years and Minnesota Rusco has gone from Storm Windows only in 1964 to today offering a variety of home improvements from New Windows to Sunrooms and Bathroom Remodeling.

In 2001 I was invited by the Minnesota State Fair to be part of the MSFCC and I continue to serve on that committee today.  In 2005 the Grandstand went through a complete remodel and I was privileged to be invited to be part of the ribbon cutting ceremony.

As of today, August 2014, I continue to be a significant part of Minnesota Rusco's involvement in the Fair, both supervising and working at the Great Minnesota Get Together.  Over these 50 years, I have been privileged to make great friends at the State Fair and I still stay in touch with many of the vendors and staff.

I would like to thank the many people who run the State Fair for the opportunity to participate and be part of one of the greatest State Fairs in the world.
