To the Editor: Victoria is a great place to live. We have been blessed by a series of elected officials over the years that have volunteered their time and energy and brought us to this point. We also have a dedicated and capable full time city staff that runs the city day to day and guides and supports our part time elected officials. The current city council has provided forward looking, fiscally conservative leadership that has managed to run the city while keeping property taxes essentially flat, while managing the development of the new City Hall and Public Works facilities currently under construction, with ample citizen input and participation. Let's support our city officials including the re-election of Tom Strigel and Jim Crowley. Gary Geurts Victoria, Minnesota
To the Editor: Eleven days after Zequanox was applied to an area around the Christmas Lake public boat access in Shorewood, it appeared it may have resulted in 100% mortality of the zebra mussels in the treatment area. Zequanox is a nonchemical treatment that has been federally approved. As of September 19th, Minnehaha Creek Watershed District staff did not find any live mussels in the treatment zone. The combination of Zequanox and the near total removal of dissolved oxygen caused by the treatment appear to have killed virtually all of the zebra mussels in the containment area.
