Candidates on Deck Continued

Dedicated to the sunshine of truth,

the moonshine of meeting deadlines,

and the starshine of Victoria.

8661 Deer Run Dr. * Victoria

952-443-2351

Candidate Tom Strigel (Incumbent) and his wife Susan.

         1) Where did you grow up?  "I grew up primarily in the southwest suburbs of Minneapolis (Minnetonka, Eden Prairie)."

         2) What is/was the occupation of your parents? "My father is a retired Electrical Engineer.  My mother is retired from Super Valu's Design Services Group as the Office Manager, but spent most of my childhood as a full time, stay at home mom and school volunteer."

         3) What is your formal education background?  "I graduated from Benilde St. Margaret's High School in St. Louis Park, then earned my Engineering degree from the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology.  I also spent 8 1/2 years in the U.S. Air Force Reserve during college and afterwards."

         4) What is your occupation and where do you work?  If retired, what was your work before retirement?  "I work for Northern Tool and Equipment as General Manager of the Tractor Division at the corporate headquarters in Burnsville."

         5) What would you like to tell us about your family?  "My wife Susan and I have been married nearly 21 years and are blessed to have three daughters.  Lauren is a freshman at University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  Paige is a junior and Meredith is a sophomore at Holy Family Catholic High School.  Susan is a Realtor with Counselor Realty in Victoria."

         6) What are some values that you hope to instill in your children or grandchildren?  "Faith has always been at the core of our lives.  I hope, as my children move on with their lives, it continues to guide them.  Fierce independence, personal responsibility, and critical thinking will help them avoid many pitfalls in life and remain true to themselves.  Lastly, I hope they dream big and make their dreams become reality."

         7) When did you move to Victoria and what keeps you living here rather than down the road where there are also 'good people and small town charm'? "We moved to Victoria 10 years ago and I have never had a reason to leave.  It's true, there are good people everywhere.  However, Victoria is more than an address.  Getting to know the good people has made it a community for us.  I'd rather invite more of those good people to come to Victoria."

         8) What have been some of your favorite travel or vacation locations and why? "We have been creatures of habit, traveling to Florida's 'Emerald Coast,' east of Fort Walton Beach (whitest, softest, sugar sand and most beautiful crystal clear water in the whole country) most years."

         9) In what ways is church or religion a part of your life?  "Our family activities and energy have been centered around our church and our children.  All three girls attended St. Hubert's School in Chanhassen for grades K-8.  Their friends and families have become our extended family.  The social events and activities through the church and school cemented us all together as a faith community.  More often now, with the girls at Holy Family HS, we find ourselves in the St. Victoria church."
