SHORTER VICTORIA SCOOP FROM SEPTEMBER

FIRE CHIEF ONE TIM WALSH REAPPOINTED

*Council appointed Tim Walsh to remain in his position as Fire Chief One from January 2010 through December 2011.  Only one application was received for the appointment.  The interview panel included City Administrator Don Uram and Firefighters Scott Lumby and Steve Hardek.

*Council approved the hiring of Sara Nelson to fill the Daycare Assistant position at the Victoria Recreation Center at $9/hour.  This person runs the childcare program that is offered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

*As in past years, the City of Victoria authorized Three Rivers Park District to use a portion of the Regional Trail Corridor through Victoria [from Kirke Lachen Park east to the city border] for winter activities between November 15th and March 31st.  Permitted winter uses include hiking, biking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and pet walking.  Snowmobiling on the trail is not permitted.

*Stated Administrator Don Uram on September 14th, “We continue to work on the Emergency Management Plan, though rather slowly.”  Asked Councilmember Jim Paulsen, “How many people do you think really know how this city is run?”  Replied Don Uram, “One.”

*Jonathan Larson of Victoria spoke to councilmembers on September 28th about “Live It,” a program under the auspices of the Carver County Health Partnership that is geared to “inspire and educate youth to take action in their communities, the county, and beyond.”  The 2009 Youth Summit will be held October 20th at Camp Tanadoona in Excelsior.  Registrations are necessary.

*Council approved the LMCC budget for 2010, a budget that is not funded with tax dollars but through a cable company franchise fee.  Total revenue is projected to be $611,670.  Total expenditures, $563,449.
