To the Editor:

Thank you so much for the full page article in the October issue of the Gazette.  I had three ladies call yesterday because they saw it in the Gazette and two on Saturday.  Another emailed me because she knew I was a Christian by the story.  The Gazette hadn't even been out four days yet.  May you be blessed for your kindness.

You do a great job.  Your fishhook is hanging out at the Arboretum with the Tin Man scarecrow.  Best regards.

To the Editor:

I realize in reading your election coverage in the October Gazette that in my rush to complete the questionnaire, I left out a very important friend and Victoria business owner, Joel Gabrielson of Joe's Original Barbers.  Joel, I look forward to my next haircut with you, and many more.

To the Editor:

Good afternoon.  It was great seeing you and Al at the great Lehner get together at Island View.  That is some family.  I almost fell off my chair watching Louise's 96 or 97-year old aunt take out her iPhone and take pictures of people at her table.  You have to love the genes in that family.

Also enjoyed visiting with you and Al about Williston, ND.  It is on my bucket list to go see what the west is like today with all the oil business going on out there.  America never lets one down.  Your article and pictures in the paper with your daughter, son in law, and family were terrific.

Attached is the resume of Jim Sterriker.  I believe he is one of Island View Golf's oldest playing members but not sure of that.  Al Lehner and Jim used to play golf together and I expected to see Jim at the anniversary party.  I hope he is well.

Having a father on a ship in the Pacific, and an uncle in the Battle of the Bulge with Jim, and another uncle captured in Bataan, I know secondhand what these lads went through in World War II.  So a while back I asked Jim if his daughter would put together his background.

Next time I am called on to speak at my hometown of Waverly, I would like Jim by my side as part of my presentation.  We owe so much to the ladies and men who sacrificed so much.  I believe Jim has or did have a plate in his head from a shrapnel injury.

Anyway, sometime in the future if you choose to acknowledge some of our vets again, I thought it would be nice for you to have Jim's service resume.  He was also a very successful metal fabricator and passed on a couple of his active businesses to his daughters.  He lost his wife Audrey a few years back with cancer.

To the Editor:

Thank you for the nice pictures of my daughter in the Victoria Moments section of the October issue.  Quick question, do you have any extra back issues?  I'd like to send out some to family members.  Thank you.  I'd be happy to stop by and pick them up if available.

To the Editor:

We are asking people to donate regular family-size soap, shampoo, deodorant, and toothpaste to the Scott-Carver Project Community Connect (PCC) organizers.  These are items that cannot be purchased with food support dollars and are in big demand at food shelves.  Our goal is to have enough of these items to give them out to each needy family that comes to the event.

We anticipate there will be 500 to 600 people who come to PCC seeking services, and we need community volunteers who can help connect them with the 80 service providers who will be at the event.

Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to email ScottCarverPCC@gmail.com or sign up on the PCC website.

We appreciate whatever you can do to get the word out.  I remember reading your paper for the first time when we moved down here and thinking what a great example of community journalism.  You don't see that very much anymore.  Victoria is lucky to have you.
