Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service.  This year’s Community Ecumenical Service will take place at the St. Victoria Catholic Church, 8228 Victoria Drive, in Victoria on Wednesday evening, November 26th, at 7:00 p.m.  Participating churches include Lake Auburn Moravian Church (Pastor Frank Jones), Waterbrooke Fellowship (Pastors Bill and Maureen Bonner), and St. Victoria (Father Bob White).  Everyone is invited to this community service of special music and message.  A freewill offering will be taken up for the CAP Agency Food Shelf.  A reception in Elstan Hall will follow the ecumenical service.

 

Thanksgiving Day.  Thursday, November 27th.  A day to remember the  original pilgrims who celebrated the autumn harvest with a feast of thanksgiving, held as a gesture of thanks to Almighty God.  Thanksgiving Day was first celebrated in the year 1621.  After the United States gained independence, Congress recommended one yearly day of thanksgiving for the whole nation to celebrate.

 

Election Day. Tuesday, November 4th.  Victoria voting locations are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  The City of Victoria is divided into two precincts.  Residents residing north of Hwy 5 vote at Precinct #1 which is located at City Hall, 7952 Rose Street.  Residents residing south of Hwy 5 will vote at Precinct #2 which is located in the gymnasium of the Victoria Field House, 8475 Kochia Lane.

 

City Council Meetings.  The City of Victoria holds its regularly scheduled city council meetings on the second fourth Thursdays of each month.  In November the schedule is rearranged to accommodate Thanksgiving Day.  A special city council meeting will be held November 5th to canvas the election results.  Regular city council meetings will be held on Thursday, November 13th and Monday, December 1st.

 

Christmas Concert.  The 12th Annual Advent/Christmas Concert in Victoria will be  held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 14th, at the St. Victoria Catholic Church, 8228 Victoria Drive.  The concert will feature the St. Victoria Adult Choir, the Handbell Choir, and the Praise and Worship Band.  The music will be presented in a variety of styles.  Admission is free.  A cake and coffee reception in Elstan Hall will follow the concert.  A freewill cash donation for the CAP Agency Food Shelf will be accepted.

 

Veterans’ Day. Tuesday, November 11th, a legal holiday formerly known as Armistice Day, marking the end of  World War I in 1918, followed by peaceful relations between the people of the United States of America and other nations.

 

Victoria Lions meet the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at the Victoria Hall on Rose Street at 6:30 p.m.

 

Victoria Chamber of Commerce meets on an irregular basis.

 

Victoria Senior Citizens meet weekly on Thursdays at the Acorn House in Diethelm Park.

Victoria Toastmasters meet the second and fourth Thursdays at 7:00 p.m.
