May Day. Monday, May 1st. A traditional day of festivities throughout the centuries. Sometimes May baskets are made and filled with flowers and treats and left at someone's doorstep. The giver rings the bell and runs away.

National Day of Prayer. Thursday, May 4th. Held on the first Thursday of May each year, it calls on people of different faiths in the United States to pray for the nation and its leaders. Established by President Harry S. Truman in 1952.

Annual Rummages Sales. May 4th and 5th at St. Victoria; May 4th, 5th, and 6th at Lake Auburn Moravian.

Full Moon. Wednesday, May 10th. The moon is fully illuminated as seen from earth. At Full Moon, the moon and sun are on a line with earth in between, as though the moon and sun are sitting on either end of a seesaw.

Property Tax Day. Must be postmarked no later than Monday, May 15th. The first half of property taxes are due each year at this time. Total amount paid includes taxes to Carver County, the School District, the City, and other smaller government entities.

Mother's Day. Sunday, May 14th. Celebration honoring mothers and motherhood. An American holiday that also came to be celebrated in other countries.

Community Blood Drive. At the Lake Auburn Moravian Church on Monday, May 22nd,from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m. Call Ruth at 952-442-2639 or email r.stahlke@yahoo.com for an appointment.

Memorial Day. Monday, May 29th. The last Monday in May. A day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's service. A federal holiday that originated after the American Civil War.

Council Meetings. Monday, May 8th, and Monday, May 22nd, at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall on Stieger Lake Lane.
