I may have missed it, but the only fish I found at the Lions Spring Fling wasn't fish; it was clam chowder provided by Island View Dining.  As delicious as it was, I would have needed at least 20 samples to make up a full bowl of soup that would suffice for my supper.  (I'm a big eater.)  And so, as the dinner hour wore on that evening of Friday, April 11th, in Lent, I weakened.  Fresh hot slices of Roulette's Pizza were on the table right next to me.  I picked up a slice that looked like an all cheese pizza, but there might have been chicken on it.  Well, it was like eating one potato chip.  Not possible.  So I took another piece of that pizza.  I purposely didn't identify the meat.  And then, as long as I had already succumbed, I tried other samples of meat products that evening.  Was I proud of myself for eating meat on Friday in Lent?  No.  Going meatless the next day, Saturday, hardly excuses my lack of will power on Friday, but it made me feel better.  Next year, if the Spring Fling is again held on a Friday in Lent, I'd love for more vendors to offer alternatives to meet -- like fish nuggets, shrimp, miniature grilled cheese sandwiches, deviled eggs, pasta, salmon spread, sushi, tuna salad, stuffed mushrooms, or spinach and crab dip and avocado salsa.  But it was a delightful First Annual, in any case.  Thanks munches and bunches to the Victoria Lions and the many business people who were part of the Spring Fling.

Sometimes there's no fish in the Gazette either, but there's always a fishhook hidden somewhere -- in an ad or in a photo or in the margins of these many pages.  Last month I wrapped the fishhook around the back end of Adam Vick's snowboard on page 39.  Many of you found it hiding there and the person I pulled out of the minnow bucket was Debbie Scott of Victoria.  Congratulations, Debbie.  The ten dollar grand prize☺will be on its way to you shortly.

There's another fishhook hidden in this issue of the Gazette.  If you find it and want to be included in the next drawing, email Sue@VictoriaGazette.com and tell of its location, or drop a line to P.O. Box 387, Victoria, MN 55386 and sinker in the mail.

And now that I'm re-reading my first paragraph in this column, I'm making myself hungry.  As they say, go fish!
