City Council Meetings.  Monday, June 13th, and Monday, June 27th.  At City Hall on Stieger Lake Lane.  6:30 p.m.

 

Flag Day.  Tuesday, June 14th.  Observed by some cities and states since the American flag was adopted in 1777, Flag Day was officially established in 1916 by proclamation of President Woodrow Wilson.  In 1949 National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress signed by President Harry S. Truman.

 

Bike Konnect.  Saturday, June 18th.  A ride, not a race, 8 to 9 miles to Chaska.  Organized by Carver County, City of Victoria Parks and Recreation, and City of Chaska Parks and Recreation. 

 

Father's Day.  Sunday, June 19th.  Observed by some communities since 1908.  Father's Day was formally proclaimed and designated by President Lyndon Johnson in 1966 as the third Sunday in June.  Made a permanent national holiday by President Richard Nixon who signed it into law in 1972.

 

Summer Begins.  Monday, June 20th.  The summer solstice is the longest day and shortest night of the year in the northern hemisphere.  The word 'solstice' is Latin for 'sun stands still.'  On June 20th (or 21st) of each year, the sun is directly overhead at noon at the Tropic of Cancer.
