1st Place Team in Brick City Classic.  There was a hockey tournament hosted by the Chaska Chanhassen Hockey Association over Thanksgiving weekend called the Brick City Classic.  Eight teams were invited from the metro area, including Edina.  The Chaska Squirt C Black Team started off with a decisive win on Friday by beating Eastview 4-1.  On Saturday it was an offensive shootout but with Chaska coming out ahead 7-4.  After North St. Paul beat Edina in a double overtime, then the shootout, our squad shut down North St. Paul on Sunday in a stunning 5-0 shutout to capture 1st Place!  Congrats to all.

Front (l-r):  Eric Hoyt, Rob Owens of Victoria, Ben Steine of Victoria, Michael Johnson of Victoria, Eli Swanson, Thomas Gauvin, Sam Swisher, Dylan Anderson, matt Moynagh (very front in goalie gear). Charlie West.  St. Cloud State University Coach Judi Larkin has signed Charlie West of Victoria to a National Letter of Intent and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tender.

Charlie is a senior member of the Chaska High School Golf team and a three-year letter winner.  CHS was the top-ranked team in 3A boys golf in 2008 with a 297.1 team stroke average.  Last spring, Charlie boasted the lowest individual overall score average on his team and was named the Team MVP and winner of the Most Birdies Award.

He was named to the 3A All-State Team and tied for fourth in the State Tournament among individual players with a 72.3 average.  He was the 2008 Section 2AAA medalist, which he won by three strokes in leading his squad to the section title.  CHS went on to place fourth at the State Tournament.

Other 2008 individual honors and top finishes for Charlie West include an eighth place tie at the University of Minnesota Tri-State Invitational.  He shot 149 at the U.S. Junior Amateur Section Qualifier and finished in the Top 25 at the Minnesota Junior State Championship last July.  He was also awarded his team’s coveted “60s’ Club” trophy as a freshmen after shooting a 69.
